Navigation modes for familiar routes
During my long daily commute I listen to audiobooks and I have to turn off the Waze auto navigation (I'm just monitoring traffic & reporting police). If there is heavy traffic or an accident, I then have turn the navigation back on. It would be nice if the familiar routes were recognized and navigation only appeared if there is an event ahead. I don't need navigation for familiar routes unless there is an event that will delay my trip, which I think should be the idea behind learning familiar routes.
Great thinking! The issue you raised has been addressed in a recent redesign. Hope you like it!

I know how to get to work. And home from work. And Waze knows I know how to connect these dots. When I select a destination from my favorites, to which I've traveled repeatedly, Waze should offer a toggle or prompt to silence turn-by-turn guidance unless there's reason to deviate...

Have you set up "Alerts Only" mode? https://support.google.com/waze/answer/6273671?hl=en

I would like to see Commuter/Familiar Route mode. I do not need turn by turn directions on my regular commute, just a heads up of which of the three ways I can go is best this morning and anything that pops up along the way...I would want to run the app minimized with pop up notices and alerts only when the route needs to change and what the change is...

This already exists. On the Sounds menu, select Alerts Only.

Often, I use Waze to find the best route commuting to and from work. More likely than not, it will give me a route that I am well familiar with. In these cases, I don't want it interrupting me to tell me to go the same way I did yesterday and the day before.
What I would like to see is maybe a "Familiar Route" button which would modify the audio notifications Waze gives. In this mode, warnings for various hazards would be audible, but directions would be silent until Waze decides that a different route needs to be taken.

I would love for Waze to have a passive mode for familiar routes. I have to drive through downtown to get to/from work and 90% of the time the route is the same, but with a lot of interchanges. Waze is very chatty, it reads the whole sign. This can get really annoying in the middle of good song or TED talk. A mode that only gives you non-turn notifications AND route changes would be awesome. I've missed a route change more than once because my brain tends to tune out Waze on my commute.
Thanks!

I use Waze for my commute and repeatedly hearing the detailed descriptions of the same road names is driving me mildly crazy. Would prefer to pare down the verbal contact to alternate routes necessitated by congestion and road alerts like "debris in road," "police ahead" etc.

My thought was very similar, so I will just add it in my comment and vote for this. I agree that turn-by-turn navigation is not needed for familiar routes, but I also like to leave it open for the above reasons. I think the option on familiar routes should be to silence turn-by-turn voice navigation but allow only for alerts.

It would be nice if the program would recognize that I drive my commute at the same time everyday, and therefore prompt me for that destination at the same time everyday.
