URL length limit – why?
The WME URL field for Places is limited to 100 characters. I'm not really sure why!
Most URLs will fit in this area, true. But some hotels have URLs longer than this. When I try to add one to a Place, it is truncated, so the URL does not work in Waze.
A hotel in my area has this URL:
https://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotel ... index.html
WME truncates it to this when pasting into URL box:
https://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotel ... ood-clearv
To compare them:
CODE: SELECT ALL
https://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/louisiana/hampton-inn-and-suites-new-orleans-elmwood-clearview-parkway-area-MSYELHX/index.html
https://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/louisiana/hampton-inn-and-suites-new-orleans-elmwood-clearv
For a hotel in particular, websites can be difficult for searching for a particular location, and the localized names (and therefore the URLs) are really long. So, having the local URL can be very helpful to an app user. Extending the length limit will make this possible. Thanks!

Congrats! This suggestion has been actioned.
The URL length limit for Places is now 512 characters.

This is one of the reasons guidance in the US is to use the main web site rather than localized pages.

This only appears to be a WME UI restriction - if you use the developer console to change the maximum length on the URL input field so that longer URLs can be entered without truncation, the place can then be saved successfully and the URL accessed correctly via the Waze app...
Long URL truncation is also a problem for some retail chains who provide store-specific webpages in the same way as the hotel chains, and we really don't want to be encouraging editors to use URL shortening services to get around this limitation given the increasing number of people who refuse to follow such URLs due to the lack of visibility over which site they actually link to.

I agree with Sketch. Also, if an editor pastes the URL into WME and doesn't realize it has been truncated, the unfortunate Wazer that later clicks it in-app will get a bad URL, leading to a bad experience. Please lift the limit to accommodate this situation. Many hotels use pretty lengthy URLs for their localized sites. I would probably lift it to at least 150 if not 200.
