Is that a responsibility of Waze? What would happen when because of one or the other error all Waze users worldwide would start automatically calling 911?

Waze is not integrated enough with the car to be able to determine with 100% you had a crash.

Waze is a GPS system, most new cars are equipped with emergency response systems that can with 100% accuracy report they had a crash. And even then they usually (right now) don't call 911 directly but they call the helpdesk of the car company.

Seems to be unimplementable... Drive at light speed, get there very fast ;) ... how fast do you intend to drive without speed limits... 160km/hour, 200km/hour.

Right now you have options time or distance... sometimes they will coincide, if they don't Waze can't choose for you. What do you want, the fastest or the shortest route. From your description I would say you want "fastest". However fastest will always take into account speed limits as else Waze doesn't know how fast you intend to drive.

This seems like an excessive option: very useful for a small fraction of the user base but useless for 99.99% of the rest.

I described a more worked out example on waze forum also for truck routing (search for "Sven routing"). But essentially what I want is very simple and would give Waze a huge edge over other current GPS system.

In Europe (and probably most other non-US places) a problem with GPS systems is that they sometimes take you on very awkward roads, you can drive on them but local people would never use them. I would like an option to avoid that, as you can currently avoid highways. E.g. call the switch "nice roads/all roads" in Waze.

As example: in my neighborhood there are 2 parallel big roads, and close to me is a very small "road" between the 2 of them. It used to be a dirt road but they paved half of it (it's still only big enough for 1 car), halfway through it becomes a dirt road again with bushes growing so far on the "road" that they will scratch your car if you drive through it. A lot of GPS systems will happily guide you through the small road, while 100m further down the road you have a regular road between the 2 big roads. Even truckers sometimes take the small road because of their GPS: the local farmer has to "free" a trucker at least each month.

    How it would work:
    - In the waze editor allow for a flag for "Try to avoid for regular routing" on a road segment. I don't know the details of the routing algorithm but when that flag is set that segment should get a very negative value for routing through it. Only when no other route exists it would take that. It would have to be set by a high level editor (for possible NIMBY abuse). Initial value would be "off" so routing would be as is now (also for new roads).
    - In Waze itself it would just be a switch ... I would set it on as default... always drive on "nice roads".

How routing would work... Route from the current location to the nearest nice road (nothing if the current location is already a nice road). Calculate backwards from the destination to the nearest nice road (nothing if the destination is already a nice road). Calculate a rout between the (possibly shifted) source and destination points only using nice roads (if available).

This would make Waze maybe not take the "extreme" fastest roads, but it would give me peace of mind that Waze selects good roads.

Search for "improve routing nice car" in the box on the right.

There is my proposal like this: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=657&t=113062 ... This would solve your issue for a big part and also improve routing.

I made a pretty complete proposal for it at https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=657&t=113062 ... which would improve routing a lot (even if not 100% implemented as proposed).

If you would do a democratic vote on it, most people would vote to keep it in Waze. Regardless whether some idiots could abuse it to drive drunk and get around police controls.

Most of the other people like police warnings. It's one of the reasons why some people use waze e.g. I also don't think that there would less accidents by reckless drivers when removing this option from waze. I even doubt drunk drivers will use Waze to avoid police, if they drank a little and can still use waze to to navigate around police I would give them the benefit of the doubt.

Relax, it's already in for a year... go to settings of Waze... click on "Display & map", click on "Alerts on route"... and select the ones you don't want to see.

You're driving a car, not an airplane ;) ... what would an altitude indicator really buy you qua functionality: you can cut down on speed as the next kilometer is going down? So you would constantly look at Waze to see whether you can slow down?

I think there are more important things still missing in Waze, just my 2c.

If you mean you hang the phone on the windscreen with a clear view on the road ahead and you scan all license plates... not that easy too implement I think:
    - getting license plates in focus + extra cpu cycles for OCR.
    - world wide database of police plates, which police won't like that much
    - different kind of plates in different countries.
    - ...

So you're going to look on your screen when you near another street? I don't think this will happen, it will clutter the interface too much, and you should know priority rules if you have a driver's license.

Only problem I see is that it will make reporting a lot more complex.
