I agree that forcing the change on users was abrupt and most unwelcome. I've used Waze for years and Samantha voice's was comfortable. I had no problem understanding or hearing the voice. Jane is at best a work in progress and not ready for prime time. Often she just blurts out a quick (compared to Samantha) phrase that is over before I realize she is speaking. The pitch is a bit too high for my taste.

Waze is supposed to remember if you repeatedly take a different route (ignoring and letting it recalculate). I find it may still override me it if it thinks it finds a faster route. I sometimes see this is I go my usual way for late afternoon, but at midnight for example.
