“Relief Route” – User-Rated Restroom and Facility Conditions Along Routes. Summary:
Travelers often depend on Waze for real-time driving conditions and route planning, but there is a growing need to include quality-of-life features, especially for long-distance drivers, families, and vulnerable travelers.
We propose adding a user-rated bathroom and rest stop review feature within Waze to allow drivers to see (and contribute) feedback on gas station bathrooms, rest area cleanliness, and general stop safety.

Problem:
While Waze already provides excellent real-time road data, there’s no reliable source for:
Clean and safe bathroom locations
Real-time user feedback on amenities
Alerts about unfit or unsanitary facilities
This causes frustration, inconvenience, and even public health concerns — especially for families, older adults, and those on long-haul drives.

Proposed Feature: “Relief Route”
User functions:
Add reviews of bathroom conditions at stops along their route
Rate 1–5 stars for cleanliness, safety, and amenities
Upload a photo (optional)
Tag stations as: “Family Friendly,” “No Soap,” “Out of Order,” etc.
See nearby stops with bathroom reviews and average scores
Visual Display in Waze:
A new icon (e.g., 😻 or 🚽) appears at known fuel/rest locations
Tapping it shows:
Average cleanliness score
Latest user comments
Tag cloud (e.g., “Clean,” “Unsafe,” “Closed at night”)
Option to “Report this stop”
Optional gamification:
Badges for helpful reviewers
Businesses could be “Bathroom Verified” if consistently well-rated
Benefits to Waze:
Adds value and trust for users, especially families and road trippers
Keeps Waze competitive with travel-focused review apps like iExit, GasBuddy, and The Dyrt
Increases user engagement by expanding reasons to open the app
Encourages businesses to maintain better facilities, improving public trust
Target Users:
Families traveling with children
Long-haul drivers
Women and solo travelers concerned with safety
Elderly or disabled individuals
RV travelers and road trippers
Implementation Notes:
Could start as a pilot in high-traffic corridors (e.g., I-10, I-40)
Partner with travel centers (e.g., Love’s, Pilot) for beta participation
Optional feature toggle: “Enable facility reviews”
Concept Mockup Description (UI Visual)
Imagine this in the Waze app:
While navigating, you see:
🚫 Chevron – Exit 190
⭐️ 3.8 / 5 (12 ratings)
