Adjustable Speeding Threshold for Accurate Alerts
Dear Waze Team,
The current Waze speeding threshold (first photo) only allows alerts at or above the speed limit (e.g., 0, 5, 10 km/h above), which doesn’t account for discrepancies between vehicle speedometers and Waze’s speed readings. In my country, exceeding the limit by even 1 km/h (e.g., 101 km/h on a 100 km/h road) results in a ticket. However, Waze’s speed often reads lower than my vehicle’s speedometer—sometimes by 10 km/h—due to location accuracy and calibration differences. With Waze set to alert “at speed limit,” I receive no warning until my vehicle speedometer hits around 110 km/h, leading to tickets. The same concerns are raised by a few of my friends, who now run a competitor’s app in the background for better alerts while using Waze in mute mode for navigation.
A competitor’s app (second photo) offers an adjustable threshold slider (e.g., -15 km/h to +35 km/h), allowing users to lower the alert threshold to match vehicle speeds. I strongly suggest Waze adopt a similar feature to align alerts with vehicle speedometers, helping drivers avoid fines with timely warnings. This would make Waze more reliable and keep users from relying on other apps.
