Add a new closure type: “Intermittent Road Closure”
Description:
I suggest adding a new closure type called “Intermittent Road Closure” to better represent real-world temporary blockages where traffic is periodically allowed to pass. Examples include religious processions, parades, public events, or heavy machinery crossings that alternate between blocking and reopening the road every few minutes (e.g., every 15 or 30 minutes).
Problem:
Currently, Waze only supports full or partial closures. However, intermittent closures behave differently: they can cause significant delays but do not justify a total reroute. This creates inaccurate routing decisions and unnecessary detours.
Proposed Solution:
Implement an intermittent closure option with the following behavior:
- Allows editors to define periodic reopen intervals (e.g., 15, 30, or 60 minutes).
- Adjusts ETA dynamically based on average closure/open intervals.
- Displays a specific alert: “Road periodically closed — expect delays.”
- Enables the routing engine to decide between waiting or rerouting based on real-time delay data.
Benefits:
- More accurate traffic predictions and routing behavior.
- Better user experience during local events or recurring temporary closures.
- Reduced false reports and unnecessary rerouting.
This feature would help Waze better reflect real traffic management situations and improve reliability in countries where such events are frequent.
