    The green alternative would be a route that is almost as fast as the fastest one, but is much shorter. For example, if you have three routes:
    1. 35km, 30 minutes
    2. 18km 31 minutes
    3. 15km 40 minutes

    clearly the first one is the fastest, and the third is the shortest. The second alternative could be the green one: it is only 1 minute slower but only half the distance, likely resulting in much lower fuel consumption.
