Waze works great when there's a mobile signal, even when there isnt - up the distance of the route that's been cached locally.

In this day of 64gb SD Cards etc being very common, Id suggest caching the route even further ahead.

Perhaps even to the extent that the cached route is only over written when a complete new route has been cached?

I've had the cached route run out a few times, especially in "open places" like Wales!

We plan to work on the display of traffic lights, stop signs and other important road signs in the near future. In the meantime, make sure you’ve got the latest version of Waze for all the latest features.

For those have windscreen mounted devices with cameras (say, a phone in a cradle), this would allow access to the camera on the device.

This would allow Waze to see and recognise street signs, such as speed signs, speed camera signs and maybe even petrol prices from boards when passing a petrol station.

Pretty processor intencive I imagine, but moma-Google knows a thing or two about image recognition!

This would be supported by manual confirmation, which would show the user snap shots of captured images. Eg

"Is this a 30mph speed sign?"

Should allow edit and confirmation. Like other reported data, this should be confirmed based on multiple reports.

User confirmation should be left to the end of a journey (either planned route or "ignition off" etc), encouraging the user to review and confirm snapshots.

This would also be useful for others without cams, as this would add data to the entire Waze network.

This could even be extended to vehicles, say a stationary cop car sat there waiting with a speed gun!

Additionally, this camera access could also be used to offer a "live view" as some other apps do - dont know whther thats the direction Waze wants to go though...
