Hello Waze Team,

This post is to strongly urge the prioritization of full integration with Apple CarPlay to enable turn-by-turn navigation on built-in Head-Up Displays (HUD) and digital instrument clusters.

This remains one of the most critical safety and convenience features missing from Waze, and it's a primary reason why many drivers reluctantly switch to Apple Maps when using CarPlay.

The Technical Framework Exists

We understand that enabling this feature is entirely possible within Apple's provided framework. The process is initiated by implementing the mapTemplateShouldProvideNavigationMetadata(_:) delegate method. By returning true from this function, Waze can signal to CarPlay that it is ready to supply the necessary navigation metadata for the car's native screens.

This isn't a niche request. An extensive and growing list of vehicles from major manufacturers already support this feature for Apple Maps and would immediately benefit from a Waze update. Implementing this would instantly improve the Waze experience for drivers of:

I’m a long-time Waze user and wanted to propose a Heads-Up Display (HUD) mode that outputs a simplified navigation view to a windshield combiner or OEM HUD. The goal is to improve safety and reduce eyes-off-road time.

What the HUD mode would show

Current speed (from GPS/vehicle data) and posted speed limit

Lane guidance for junctions/exits

Core turn-by-turn prompts (next maneuver + distance)

Key safety alerts (speed cameras, hazards, police, road closures)

Why it helps

Less glance time vs. phone/dash screens → safer driving

Clearer lane & speed context reduces last-second lane changes and speeding

Extends Waze’s strengths (community alerts) into a low-distraction format

How it could work (options)

Native HUD layout toggle in Waze that mirrors to supported HUDs (CarPlay/Android Auto / AAOS “HUD surface” if available), or

A Waze HUD API / projection intent so approved aftermarket HUDs (and OEMs) can render an official simplified Waze view, and

Optional OBD-II pairing to confirm vehicle speed and enable over-speed warnings.

I’d be happy to share user scenarios and mockups if useful. Thanks for considering a HUD mode—Waze is already the best for real-time driving; this would make it even safer.

Google Maps & Apple Maps support Head-Up Display navigation on BMWs via CarPlay. It is not the case so far with Waze. It would be really useful to have this feature and allow much safer navigation.

Since the first post about this was on February 27, 2012, I highly doubt this has traction. What a shame. This entire thing is like a blog that just floats in outer space. Waste of time if no one from Waze can make a decision on this.

Add HUD capability for Car Play. I have a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid with HUD. Currently only the OEM and Apple Maps come up on HUD when using Car Play; neither of them are my preferred GPS. Waze apparently works when using android auto.

Today I tried to test two of the new parameters of the new Zwift HUD update, specifically the temperature parameter and the left and right side pedaling activity recording parameter [geometry dash lite]https://geometrydashlite.online, and neither of them registered anything for me.

Does it happen to you?

Google maps through android auto shows navigation on my 2021 ford focus HUD. Waze does not. Please implement this feature.

I'm starting to think the feedback we give to Waze doesnt mean anything.

The fact this was suggested to Waze over a year ago and they havent acted on this is disgusting, its a huge safety feature to stop people having accidents and distractions to look away from the road is utterly obserbed that Waze have noe implimented this yet....

I had a suggestion for a top gun theme that might work pretty well with this

Apple released the API to enable this feature in iOS 17.4. Please add support for it.
