We plan to work on adding the average speed zone indication on screen to Android Auto in the near future. In the meantime, make sure you’ve got the latest version of Waze for all the latest features.

There is currently no indication of any average speed check you are currently in, when using Android Auto, Carplay, or landscape mode.
At least when in fullscreen it could easily show the current average within the section, and even the progression within the section.
At the VERY least an indication that you are still within a section check.
There are other apps showing it, for example this is an image of a very popular Dutch app doing essentially the same thing in the bottom middle. (but not nearly as good at navigating or display as Waze)
