    Hey,

Please note we're changing the status of this suggestion to Not right now, since we finalized our plans for 2024 and this idea won't be implemented this year.

We hope to include it in our plans for later down the line.

    Thanks!

+1 from Melbourne, Australia is full of variable speed limits. School zones drop to 40 at set times, strip shopping centres change through the day, and the electronic signs on the freeways change with traffic, roadworks and weather. You can drive the same road twice in one day and have two different limits.

It’s always up to the driver to know the limit and stick to it. No argument there. But people use Waze because it helps, and a speed limit that’s wrong at the times that matter most works against them. Right now the times when you most need to slow down, like school pick-up, are the exact times Waze shows the higher limit.

Getting it wrong here is expensive. The fines are big, you lose demerit points, and the mobile speed cameras are in unmarked cars. You often don’t know you’ve been caught until the letter turns up a couple of weeks later.

I understand time-based limits take work to build. In the meantime, an easy fix would be to show the lower limit wherever a road has more than one. If I’m a bit under the limit at midnight, nobody cares. If I’m over it outside a school at 3:30, that’s a fine, and it’s a safety issue too.

Please make this a priority. I am suprised that after 9 years this is still not a feature!
