We are a LEGO League team of 4th graders from Arlington Science Focus School VA who have done a lot of research on the problem of wildlife‑vehicle crashes. We’re asking Waze to help reduce wildlife‑vehicle crashes nationwide and save our ecosystem.
Every year in the U.S., there are ~1.5 million deer‑vehicle collisions, causing over $1 billion in damage, 200 deaths, and 10,000 injuries. The total national cost of wildlife‑vehicle collisions reaches $8.5 billion annually.
We propose 2 simple features:
Automatic Animal‑Crossing Alerts
Use national wildlife‑crossing data to show permanent warnings just like average‑speed‑control or curve alerts whenever drivers enter a high animal density crossing area.Real‑Time “Animal on Road” Report Button
Let drivers report animal sightings instantly, just like police or hazard reports. These small changes could save lives, prevent crashes, and protect wildlife across the country.
Please upvote to help make Waze even safer!

We hope to include it in our plans for later down the line.
Thanks!

We’re asking Waze to help reduce wildlife‑vehicle crashes nationwide and save our ecosystem. Waze can tap into existing databases from dept of transportation and vehicle insurance companies which track animal related road accidents to identify those areas.
