As the Phoenix Metro area continues to expand into land that was virgin desert, we are having to deal with the coyotes and bobcats who called these areas, “Home”. Unfortunately, rather than heading deeper into the desert, these creatures have discovered that outdoor cats and small dogs doing their, “Business” in their walled backyards to be easy prey. Even in heavily populated neighborhoods where homes were built 25+ years ago, an astounding number of people are dealing with the grief of losing a friend and furry family member.
My husband came up with a great solution! He bought two coyote-proof dog run kits, assembled them, and used the remaining materials to build a safe tunnel that connects our new, “Doggie Fun House” to our doggie door. In it he placed a square piece of articifical grass, where our doggies can do their business without risking becoming prey.
I learned from a specialist at the Arizona Game & Fish Department that the best solution involved neighbors uniting and agreeing to spend just a few minutes a day performing simple tasks that will render our neighborhood less appealing to coyotes. I thought Wave would be of great assistance in our efforts to keep our pets safe, and would create a new group of appreciative, loyal, users.
