Another use case: on my commute, there are three separate tolls I can take along one route. I'm fine with the first two tolls, as they're a fixed price less than $5. The third is a variable rate that often costs upwards of $25 each way. I prefer to take the first two toll roads, then hop off the highway and take the back roads the rest of the way there. The extra 15 minute drive is worth saving $25 to me.
