Avoid a specific road
I've seen a number of posts regarding this, and myself have wanted this on various occasions for a number of different reasons. The alternatives (avoid highway, avoid toll, avoid dirt) are useful in many cases, but there are also many cases where they simply don't serve the actual need.
For example, this reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/waze/comments/6vfd6m/can_i_stop_waze_from_rerouting_or_select_a/) is from a user that wants to specifically avoid the Capital Beltway (I-495). Not because it's a highway, and not because of a perceived inability for Waze to determine traffic, but just as a personal preference. As another example, sometimes when driving through D.C. or Baltimore, I find myself wanting to avoid certain local roads at night time, specifically ones where the street lights are not working. There are many personal preference reasons one might have to want to avoid a specific road! And hearing things like "you can use this other option" is usually not helpful, because the asker of the question has already explored the menu and found those options!
There are a couple ways this could be presented to the user. In the settings menu, I could see a list of roads you want to avoid, and a button to add a road, which takes you to the map, possible with a search option. Maybe when navigating the map normally, one of the things a long-press gets you is the ability to mark a road to avoid. Maybe when you are presented with a list of directions, you can swipe away a turn to indicate you don't want to go onto that road, and you're then asked "this trip only / this and all future trips?"
This is getting long-winded. It suffices to say I've thought about this a lot and would like to see this feature. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for your feedback. At this time, this doesn't fit on our roadmap, but we'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

I'd really like to be able to avoid a specific road or area. There's a road near me that always has cars double-parked along its length and it's a nightmare to try and drive it safely. Waze always seems to want me to drive along it. Please reconsider adding this feature. Thank you.

Please add this! There‘s an extremely steep and narrow road over a mountain near me which is super dangerous to drive on, so I try to avoid it whenever possible, but Waze ALWAYS suggests using it since it saves a few minutes compared to the highway that goes around said mountain…
The already available filter methods don‘t help at all since the said road is not a highway nor a dirt road. It also doesn‘t have toll stations and no turns which are considered difficult. A feature like this would honestly be life changing for me, and I‘d probably never use Apple Maps or Google Maps again. -

I would like to suggest adding a feature that allows users to define specific areas or regions to avoid during navigation, even if this results in a longer route. This option would be especially useful for drivers who wish to stay away from certain areas for reasons such as safety, heavy traffic, roadwork, or personal preference, providing greater control and customization when choosing routes.

My 2005 Acura had an avoid area feature that I could select from my car navigation screen. It was fantastic for avoiding roads I didn’t like to drive on. It’s 20 years later surely Waze programmers can figure this out.

Provide users with a way to select/list roads they don't ever want to navigate onto or through. We've all had at least one road in our lives we never want to be on again. Maybe it's a trauma response, maybe it's simply a road with a weird curve you don't like, or maybe a temptation you want to avoid. It may not be worthy of telling others to avoid, but it's worth it to you. This has nothing to do with a road hazard, or a current condition, but a personal decision.
Twenty years ago, Dell had a GPS navigation app for their Axim pocket PC, which had a feature to avoid roads, simply because you didn't want to be routed that way. I've been chasing that high ever since.

I would also greatly appreciate this feature. There is a road near me I hate to use - there is always another way around too.

I think that adding feature avoid turnaround will be helpful. Sometimes waze stubbornly tries to makes us turn back instead of trying new road

This, please!!! Where I live, there is an specific intersection which is absolutely dangerous, and often on my route home. I can´t always antecipate it, because I´m coming from a highway, and it gets very unsafe to check the route and try to force an alternative when driving alone. But the feature should be available for whatever personal reason to not cross any spot.

Like many of the others, I only want to avoid one specific highway/freeway.

The only reason I downloaded Waze is because Google maps does not have this feature

This is an absolute NECESSITY to drive in Orlando!! You NEED to be able to avoid I-4, while NOT avoiding any other highways!! How can you still be neglecting this request which has 600 votes and has been sitting here for 8 years????

Agreed. Especially in the DMV area. Waze always wants to take express lanes because it’s faster but not always worth it because it could sometimes cost $40-$50 to save only 15 minutes. I only want to take the express lanes for one particular section and there’s no way to do that without setting the app to avoid tolls and then re-allowing tolls closer to the section I want to take and going through the whole recalculating process. There should be a little “X” in the top corner of your next turn that can skip that particular instruction and then code the app to preemptively simulate as if you’ve already missed it and need to recalculate the route. This would be simplified even for CarPlay users and limits the amount of phone/screen distraction while driving. This could also go on the turn list where you can slide right one particular instruction and select avoid or skip. Seems like it could be a real possibility to integrate.

Where I live (Philadelphia suburbs) there are roads that were designed when the main mode of travel was either horse or horse and carriage. While they were great then, they are now four lane roads with a posted speed of 25mph and most drivers take this speed limit as a mere suggestion. I would dearly love to tell Waze to avoid these specific roads. However, because I cannot, every time I travel to and from work, all routes suggested by Waze include at least one of these roads. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add this option so I can stop risking my life and my sanity every day I go to work.

+1 I would like to avoid a very expensive highway and take another road entrance a few kilometers away.

This would be amazing. I am constantly routed over a crumbling bridge, into a hairpin turn, up an 8% grade, and then into a blind turn. I want to avoid it. ²

Need to wake up to this idea. In the last week we got forced off a major road due to a closure that Waze did not know about. Instead of routing us home it just kept looping us back to the closed road. Need a way to say "find a route that doesn't use the A1".
If this is not on your roadmap, what is your solution? -

There is a route near me in SW Virginia that Waze tries to route me on almost every time I'm traveling to NY. The route goes up and down a mountain with numerous tight turns and steep inclines, with absolutely no lights. Add fog to the mix, and it is incredibly dangerous. I actually popped a tire on the route at night. I never want that route to be suggested to me again as an option; I would rather sit in traffic. When you're driving alone, you can't always check alternate routes, so I want it so that Waze automatically avoids a route that I identify as one I don't like. There should also be some sort of indication ahead of time that a route has lots of elevation changes, so a driver can choose to avoid it (if an alternate route does exist).
