Absolutely agree. Despite missing HFP option, the iOS actually prioritize HPF over A2DT for navigation announcements. But not if CarPlay connected. It would be very useful for Waze to have an explicit HFP setting like f. e. Magic Earth do.
BTW: Google Map does have it, but seems to ignore it since some time.

This is also important if you need to stream music or any kind of audio from another source, because only HFP can interrupt another source. Examples would be playing music from the car, or using a secondary phone as a motorcycle sat nav, and the main phone for music, whatsapp calls, etc (pairing both to the same helmet bluetooth)

Hello, is it possible to transmit the voice output to the car radio via Bluetooth HFP (telephone call)? Unfortunately my radio doesn't support A2DP. I use a Galaxy Note 20 with Android. Many Thanks

Absolutely excellent idea - the CamSam Plus speed cam app already does this and works brilliantly.

Unless my Hyundai Tucson is actually playing bluetooth media, the A2DP channel warnings go nowhere.

However, HFP alerts bypass everything and always sound.
