Integrate with cobra iRadar
Cobra has a radar detector that works with android and iphone. They upload/download radar locations for their own community. There may be an opportunity for the two companies to work together, and integrate with each other. Imagine: turn by turn nav, automatic traffic condition updates, user reported feedback of accidents and automatic reports of police radar points all in one cohesive application.

Escort, another radar detector brand, also offers a similar product called Escort Live. Apparently, they poll/post detected radar signals pulled via bluetooth from their radar detector, but offer limited / no map routing in their software.
Ideally, modules could be added to the Waze app which could allow it to pair/pull radar alerts via bluetooth, and popup a similar message to verifying others' reported police at a location: Yes/No for a few seconds, then add it as a new icon, showing X, K, Ka, or Laser on the map (or don't add, if the user indicates it isn't Police before the timeout). In this way, all Waze users could benefit from others' radar reports, without having to always carry a detector.

As of the end of Dec 2018, the Cobra iRadar (900) is still available new via A****n for under $35, but, the Cobra app for Android is still lousy as a driving app (compared to Waze). Unlike Waze, the Cobra GUI has details so tiny they can only safely be read while stopped, certainly not for turn by turn navigation directions. And Cobra apparently never imagined the need for a night mode!
I can think of two possible options for integration of iRadar for use with Waze as a replacement navigation app, supplemented with Cobra iRadar signal detection:
1) Reverse engineer the Cobra iRadar app, or, perhaps link into an undocumented developer mode in the Cobra Map software to bridge/pull data going to and from the iRadar community database for use with Waze. This would add much more user data to Waze, but some of the data under the iRadar database may be obsolete (e,g, traffic cameras, etc.).
2) Forget the Cobra iRadar software altogether. Add a module into Waze to link to various Cobra iRadar hardware via bluetooth. This module would then pull any detected radar / laser events for possible local software filtering (include/exclude X, K, Ka, Laser, etc.) and possible upload to the Waze database (fully independent of the original Cobra software). This bluetooth module could later be expanded to incorporate other brands and models of Radar detection hardware, provided they also support bluetooth, and that their detection data can be read/decoded.

Create option to link to my Cobra Radar detector and share any lidar detections. I typically don't speed so I would be part of a mesh. Waze can add an option to share last 5 min, 10 min, 20 min etc... lidar detections in region.
surely someone at Waze is inline with user thinking on this. how beautiful would that be to get data from escort live and or iRadar. I want this feature!!
Add GPS driving directions functionality
Would love to have alternate routes available on screen when traffic dictates due to wrecks, freeway shut-downs, etc
I just purchased this Cobra Unit and the first thing I thought of was to integrate with waze! With both waze and the Cobra Iradar both running the Waze simply is better because there are so many users. If Cobra and Waze would get together this would be the holy grail!

Amen to this one! the iradar app sucks, the threat database Aura sucks, detector initiated threats ie K KA laser etc even when acknowledged by a human as a cop takes sometimes hours to appear and warn anyone, useless! If you read the review I left on their google play page I have been telling them what a road warrior wants and they refuse to listen,
I use waze and still have to keep Iradar app running to get alerts via bluetooth to vehicle audio system. If Waze could talk to the detector life would be good!!
Oh yea please add a C6 White Z06 corvette to the car icons!!!

Some kind of Radar Detector integration would be very welcome. I would prefer Cobra but I suspect if done right it could be done in a generic way to support a variety of models.
Integrate also with LOVE units ;)
This is likely covered by the popular "waze api" feature request. Though the api would need be EXPANSIVE
And intents, for androids
Of related interest moving highway patrol / police. Provide fringe detection and source of radar blips with visual indication as a kind of optional thing to display
Provide heat map for radar activity
And ability to identify those carcinogenic stationary radar signs
With at least four mile advanced warning

Oops. It's the cobra iRadar. cobrairadar.com
Unit is like $90 US.
