Heads up Display (HUD)
make an heads up display icon so that the user can place it on their dash and the reflection will show up on the windshield.. for night time driving whee it is safer to stare closer to the road versus looking down...other apps use this idea but they dont have the GPS ability..it will set waze apart from all other GPS systems..and make it look extra cool!

I bought a beautiful mirror holder to convert smartphones into HUD displays but there is no good nav app for Android that offers an HUD mode.

I am working on a special mount that can reflect a readable version of any app on the phone, including Waze. You basically have a transparent image on the windshield showing Waze with the correct orientation. I have built a working prototype and I am currently testing it. The solution is very simple and compact. Would you be interested in a phone mount that does this?
Also keep in mind, that any reflection on the windshield is not visible during the day with sun. It only works at night or when there isn't sun (cloudy, rainy day or a few hours in the morning and before it gets dark).

Even with HUD mode, the image reflected off the windshield has two (minor) issues/limitations:
1. It is not visible during the day in sunny conditions.
2. There is double reflection on the windshield. (can be eliminated with special film).
So even if Waze had a HUD mode one would only be able to use it at night or when it is cloudy or raining. Would you still want a HUD mode?

For iPhone users who are willing to jailbreak their phones, I have a simple and affordable solution to the need for HUD while using Waze. Just jailbreak your iPhone (up to IOS 9.3.3) and install an apt from Cydia called "HUD mode" and voila, you can reverse (mirror mode) your IOS apps, including Waze. In this way, the cheapest solution is to put a sticky rubber pad on top of the dashboard to place your iPhone and reflect the screen to the windscreen (windshield if you prefer) and you can read Waze screen in the correct orientation. For even clearer view during morning/afternoon drives, buy a cheap opaque HUD film for the windscreen to help you see the image clearer. But for the ultimate view, order an HUD Mobile Navigation Bracket for around $15, and you're set to enjoy the best Waze experience ever, for the price.

Being a former fighter pilot, gave me the real meaning of the HUD, is so important. All the attention move to the exterior of the cockpit . Flying without HUD is an exercise, really. Waze is the best application for nav, no doubt. The "HUD MODE" to reverse the image and project using any hardware would be absolutely AWESOME and accord to the WAZE TEAM VISION.
i'll wait that update. -

I have HUD Headway glass, I got i from ebay for less than $15. It works great!!! The problem is that the app for it is not very good. Waze is so much better but does not have a HUD display.
