Live traffic information from Government and Community sources
Some countries, states and governments provide an official traffic information feed that can be viewed by the community.
The RTA (Roads and Traffic Authority) in Australia provides information in a news feed based on area, that are contributed to by the RTA, police, fire, ambulance, state emergency services, and the community in general.
Im not sure of other countries setups, but it would be nice to implement some already available sources of official traffic conditions that could be viewed in waze and notfy the users of the problems.
The RTA information page about the system is here
http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/desktop.html#about
It i just an rss feed you can subscribe to... eg
http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/traffic/rss/reg-north.atom
Seeing as in the feed the reported problems have locations, maybe waze could use the feed based on the location name, and anyone traveling to that area will be notified.
Or perhaps there is a better way to implement it that i dont know of, but the information provided is very useful.

This is a great idea, but is currently being accomplished through Waze for Cities. Learn more: https://www.waze.com/ccp

Waze needs to find a way to coordinate its information with local governments and local traffic systems. I live in Houston and yesterday was a huge weather crisis with wide spread flooding that went on for hours. Streets and highways were impassible at 4:00pm at least 8 hours into the flooding I tried to use waze to get home and it continued to navigate me to closed highways and flooded streets.

Keep and share the history of accidents (or other irregularities) to see if its a one time thing or a pattern that may implicate in government responsibility or something else.

Having the public report a number of things (a business is closed, road is blocked by snow, etc.) as they drive around could provide a wealth of information that a local government could use to alert the public.

Working with the Florida Highway Patrol, our Computer Aided Dispatch program feeds all traffic incidents, road blockage, etc to our website for public view. I think being able to take this data and feed it into Waze would make a huge difference. Who monitors a website while on a road trip? :P
