Inclusive maps for color-blind people
I've been thinking of a problem Waze might find not that difficult to solve. Congestion leves are represented by different shades of colors, mainly yellows and reds. But lots of people around the world are color blind at some level, so the congestion colors are useless for them. I am suggesting that instead of simply using the plain shades of the colors, Waze star using hatched colors. This might be really helpful to a lot of people. Besides, this would help build an inclusive culture and policy.

Approximately 8% of men and 0.5% of women worldwide are color blind. This means that around 4.5% of the total population experiences some form of color vision deficiency. The most common type is red-green color blindness, which affects the ability to distinguish between reds, greens, and browns—exactly the issue with current traffic maps.
Given these numbers, millions of people would benefit from more accessible indicators.
To enhance accessibility, I suggest incorporating additional visual indicators such as:Patterns or Textures – Different road textures (e.g., diagonal stripes for slow traffic, dots for moderate, solid for smooth flow) could help differentiate congestion levels.
Symbols or Icons – Small icons (e.g., a snail for slow traffic, a turtle for moderate, a rabbit for fast-moving) could provide clarity.
Line Thickness – Varying line thickness to represent traffic density could be an intuitive alternative.
Gradient Shading – Using grayscale variations instead of color could help convey traffic flow.
Blinking or Animation – Subtle pulsing or blinking effects on slow-traffic sections could enhance visibility.
Audio or Haptic Feedback – An option to announce traffic conditions or use vibrations in navigation could further assist users.
These enhancements could greatly improve the experience for millions of color-blind users. I’d love to see these ideas considered in future updates! -

For a color-blind person like me, this is essential, because I can't see the path as soon as I share it. Color-blind people see blue very well, but hardly any red or green.

There used to be 2 different color schemes in the app -- why was it removed? This suggestion is important for not only just colorblind users

Would be great to have the option of a colour blind mode - so it’s more user friendly for the masses. Boyfriend couldn’t see the red traffic indicator line alongside the blue route line…

I am teaching my teenage grandson who is color blind to drive. I use Waze for navigation and was using this to help him. While he was driving, I asked him why he could not follow the route. He looked at me quizzically and I asked if he could not tell the HIGHLIGHTED (by color) route. He could not tell the difference! So....
It would be useful if Waze could make the line for the route dashed instead of continuous. This could easily be detected by those who are color blind. -

Can there be a color blind mode? My boyfriend and I were driving and he couldn’t read the instructions in a timely manner because the colors are too similar for him. I’m not color blind, but this seems like a pretty simple fix that allows a massive number of folks to use the service.

Request Waze To improve the location input to voice commands so that the blind people can use the waze as well. Can be great help for people with vision disability.

As a color blind user I cannot identify the heavy traffic indications on you maps. It would be helpful if you altered those to have them appear as wide bold lines .
