Allow viewing on mobile while connected to android auto
When my phone is connected to Android Auto, viewing the app on the phone is disabled but not all features are enabled on the car display which are often needed. I cannot change my vehicle type (car/motorcycle), I cannot share my ride, if I am not currently navigated I cannot change alert settings.

Fully agree!
I really liked to have Waze with perspective view on my phone in a phone holder (vertical) + GoogleMaps with the full route map view on the car display at the same time. -

I just realized mine too. It is quite frustrating that now I am not able to look at the navigation (map) on my phone but have to look at my car's head unit.
Is there any way to switch it back to having it on my phone?

Since a few days ago, Waze no longer shows the map navigation on the phone screen but only the turn-by-turn navigation.
The problem with this is, my car's built-in AA could never run Waze. The car location would always get stuck at one location.
My workaround has been to run Waze on the phone and Google Maps on the car's AA screen. This worked like a charm until last week. Right now, every time I use Waze I have to disable AA and connect my phone audio using bluetooth to the car's head unit. It's a really decluttered setup and a major step back.
My suggestion is to make an option to have the navigation map displayed on the phone screen while connected to AA. This is very useful when the car's AA is too weak to run Waze. By default, Waze can still have it set to turn-by-turn, but there is an option/toggle to switch to map navigation.

This one is really frustrating especially when combined with the Waze "feature" that ends the trip either because the car ignition was turned off or because I stopped longer than it takes to get to the restroom from the parking lot. When I get back to the car, I have to open Waze on the phone first, resume the trip, re-share the trip with my home contact, start the car, and then finally I can leave. If I forget to restart from the phone so that I can share the trip again, I have to turn off Wifi and BT, wait Waze to realize it's not connected to AA, resume and reshare, and then finally turn WF and BT back on.
There's a simple solution to this: A settings option titled something like, "Pause when idle," or "Switch to phone when AA is off." I promise not to invoice you if you use either of those.

Why I can not use my phone screen when Android auto is enabled. When I drive if I want to change or add a pause on the road, I cannot. My Android screen is at the passenger side and I cannot use it.
Can you please make an update so we can safely control Waze with phone to change the direction?
Please!
Otherwise I'll have to switch to Google maps but I like Waze!

Could fit in the App UI category too?
When my phone is connected to AA if I try to use Waze on my phone it forces me to use it on my car's screen. If I'm parked it's just more convenient to use my phone. Also sometimes I have passengers. :/

I find it incredibly frustrating that road closures are impossible to report in AA mode and thus rerouting around a closure requires unplugging my phone and then usually backtracking so I can actually mark the route as closed because it won't let me mark as closed behind me.
If I could just use the normal UI on my phone at the same time in the same way Google Maps does it, that'd solve that problem.

It is a must especially for the older car models without touchscreen

I have unplugged the phone from the car many times to search for a place and reconnect. Especially when I search for a place I do not have in my bookmarks.
Google Maps can be used in both places as complementary information (turns) and any configuration.

It's usually easier to search on your phone instead of using your car's Android Auto screen.

When I drive with the family for holidays and there is need to search for poi's and add stops on the go... it is definitively an added safety if the front passenger can do these from the phone while the driver focuses on the road.

Often time, I need to go from point A - B - C.
When I reach point B, I would unplug my phone and set to point C and re-plug. It is kinda tedious when doing this multiple times a day. -

I only use Android Auto and too many functions are missing such as being able to enable/disable toll roads.
When I used Carplay the iphone acted as a second screen with all the turn by turn information which was pretty neat. Definitely need more functionality that the phone provides.
