The UK system is simple. Driving distances are always measured in miles and yards.

Flying in the UK is rather different. Distances are measured in nautical miles, and airspeeds in knots. Heights when flying at low levels are measured in feet, and at higher levels in flight levels (units of 100 feet).

Heights are measured in feet above the local ground, but altitudes are measured in feet above MSL (Mean Sea Level). Knowing the difference can be a matter of life and death. If you are coming in to land and your altitude is 500 ft that would be bad news at Biggin Hill, because the runway is 600 feet above sea level.

Oh, and visibility is measured in kilometres, and cloud cover in oktas (units of 1/8 of the sky). Simples!

I agree, feet for distance doesn't compute. We use feet for altitude. Google maps is far superior, measuring in decimal points of a mile. I've tried Waze a couple of times, but always go back to Google maps even though I think the longer time estimates on Waze are probably more realistic.

Hybrid distance miles and meters. In the UK we tend to use meters and miles for distance, some hybrid options would be great

First time user today.. why oh why is the distance in feet.. got to my destination and deleted Waze app... apparently there's no option for yards.. until sorted I'm going back to Google maps

Yes. I came here to say exactly this! No one in the UK talks about 1000 feet. It’s meaningless. Better to say 300 yards. How hard can it be to change this? I see there have been similar comments for several years! I too am not keen on using the app until it’s changed.

all other satnavs use yards instead of feet. this is putting me off useing waze.

Kind of a combination of several previous ideas but...

I'd like to see the distance units options split in two: with "km", "Mile", and "Local" on the first slider; and "Ft", "Yd", and "m" on the second.

The first slider would continue to control which units were used for long distance directions, speed limits, ect. However, the local option would switch automatically switch between "Mile" and "km" depending on where you were. For example, if your in the UK, the "Local" option would put the display in miles. However, if you then crossed the channel to Europe, it would automatically switch to Km.

The second slider would control the units used for instructions (visual and spoken) near a junction. This is important because many people (in countries like the UK) have never used Feet or Yards, with the meter being the unit of choice. But equally, using the Km on waze in a country that puts its signs in Miles is quite unhelpful.

I second this, much more natural for UK drivers.

In the uk, nobody thinks in feet when driving, can we have the option of yards please

I can visualise distance in yards but feet makes it very difficult to estimate where I need to turn on roads with multiple junctions.

I have just tried waze and really liked it apart from using feet instead of yards. Not going use it until this is sorted as I an option is.

Add me to the list of people not using your app until this essential and simple change is made.

The requests to change the imperial measuring unit from feet to yards have been ongoing since at least 2016. It is now 2023, how difficult is it to do? Do you actually have a development team that are capable of making such a small enhancement?
It's pathetic that this STILL hasn't been done.

Great idea. I'm more comfortable with metric units but want the speed to match road signs.
