Add User-Configurable Filter to Hide Road Closures Older Than X Hours
In regions experiencing dynamic events like protests, construction, or natural disasters, road closures can appear and disappear rapidly. Unfortunately, Waze currently displays all reported closures—regardless of how old or potentially outdated they are—until another user manually clears them or the system detects traffic through them. This results in a cluttered and often inaccurate map, especially in countries like Panama where road conditions can change daily.
Request:
Please implement a user-configurable filter to hide or de-emphasize road closures that haven’t been confirmed or re-reported in a given time frame (e.g., 24, 48, or 72 hours). This would allow drivers to better assess current road conditions when planning routes in areas with fast-changing traffic patterns.
Why this matters:
Road closures over a week old are often no longer accurate and can lead to unnecessary detours or confusion.
In protest-prone or rural areas with fewer active users, stale closure reports remain on the map for days or weeks.
Users currently have no way to differentiate between fresh and outdated reports without trial and error, which defeats the purpose of using a real-time traffic app.
Bonus suggestion: Give map editors or regional moderators tools to auto-expire old closures after a customizable period if no reconfirmation is received.
This change would greatly improve the reliability and usability of Waze in countries and regions where road access is unpredictable. Thank you for considering this much-needed improvement.
