spaced instructions
Instead of saying, "at the roundabout take the 3rd exit, then at the roundabout take the second exit then turn left" which are three separate instructions all given at once, how about do the following?
"At the roundabout take the 3rd exit",
Silence until the turn
"At the roundabout take the second exit then prepare to turn left"
Silence till appropriate distance from left turn.
"Turn left at .... street"
That way the brain isn't forced to decipher a barrage of nearly similar instructions while doing the other twenty things necessary for safe driving.
