THE PROBLEM

When a group of motorcyclists sets off together, Waze gets every rider
to the destination — but nobody knows anything about anyone else. If
someone falls behind, stops, or breaks down, the rest find out at the
next fuel stop. Sometimes 50 km later.

Today we solve this with phone calls and repeated stops just to count
heads. On a motorcycle, in motion, that is dangerous.

THE PROPOSAL: a "Group Ride" mode, available only in Motorcycle mode

Waze already knows who is riding a motorcycle — Settings > Navigation >
Vehicle type > Motorcycle. This proposal would live entirely behind
that existing setting.

• The organiser creates a ride (destination + planned stops) and
shares an invite link or code
• Riders join with one tap and all get the same route
• Everyone in the group appears on the map, in real time
• Roles: Ride Leader at the front, Sweep at the back
• Alert when someone falls more than X km behind
• Alert when someone has been stopped for more than Y minutes while
the group keeps moving
• Alert when someone loses signal, showing their last known position
• A "Problem" button that sends your exact location to the whole group
• Automatic regroup point suggestion

Thresholds (X km, Y minutes) configurable by the organiser.

WHY GATE IT TO MOTORCYCLE MODE

Because it costs car drivers nothing. Riders in Motorcycle mode see one
extra entry point; every other Waze user sees no change at all, no new
buttons, no added complexity. The vehicle type toggle that makes this
possible already exists and already ships.

It also solves a problem that is specific to two wheels. Cars travelling
together can call each other, pull over safely, and see one another in
the mirror. A rider in a 15-bike column cannot use a phone, cannot stop
on a mountain road, and loses sight of the group on every bend.

WHY NOW

Motorcycle mode was recently expanded with rider-specific routing and
hazard warnings for potholes, speed bumps, raised crossings and narrow
bridges. That work recognises that riders need different information
from drivers. Group awareness is the same idea applied to the one thing
riders worry about most on a long ride.

Waze is already the app on the handlebar mount. You cannot juggle two
apps while riding, and a second navigation app is not an option. Waze
has the map, the route, the traffic and the community. The only missing
dimension is the group.

The principle is simple, and every group rider already knows it:
don't leave anyone behind.
