Today Waze plays the speed camera alert once, around 500 m before the camera, and then goes silent. From that point until the camera itself, the only feedback is visual.

The 500 m warning distance is fine. The problem is what happens after it. A lot can change in 500 m: a red light, a downhill stretch, traffic clearing up, or simply forgetting about the camera. If the driver drifts above the limit during that window, Waze says nothing, and the driver gets fined — by an app whose main value for most people is precisely avoiding that.

Requested behaviour: while inside the alert zone of a speed camera (from the initial warning until passing it), if the driver is above the camera’s speed limit, play a repeating audio cue — a periodic beep, like a classic radar detector — until either the driver slows below the limit or the camera is passed. Outside camera zones, nothing changes.

This is different from a general “continuous overspeed alert”, which would beep everywhere and become annoying enough that people turn it off. Here the sound is scoped to the exact place and moment where it matters, so it stays rare and meaningful.

Suggested setting: Settings > Speedometer (or Alerts) > “Repeat alert while speeding near a camera” (on/off).
