Smart itineraries for CNG cars with automatic stops based on remaining range
Hi everyone!
I often use Waze for long trips and I drive a CNG car. As many know, the network of CNG stations is not widespread, and every trip needs careful planning, especially when range is limited.
Currently, Waze allows you to select the type of fuel, but it doesn’t manage range nor suggest mandatory stops when the route exceeds the distance you can cover with the remaining CNG.
Improvement idea
Add a feature that allows users to set:
Total range (e.g., 350 km)
Remaining range (e.g., 120 km)
Fuel type: CNG
During navigation, if the distance to the destination exceeds the remaining range, Waze could:
Calculate the point where the range runs out
Automatically search for CNG stations within reach
Suggest a stop as an intermediate waypoint
Prefer stations that are:
along the route
with minimal detour
possibly cheaper
open at the estimated arrival time
Why this would be useful
CNG has a much less widespread network compared to gasoline/diesel
Drivers must manually plan every stop
An automatic feature would reduce stress, detours, and risks
It could also be extended to LPG and electric vehicles
Real example
Route: Venice → Brindisi (about 900 km)
Range: 350 km
Remaining range: 120 km
Waze could automatically suggest stops in Rimini, Pescara, Foggia, etc., without the user having to search manually.
Conclusion
In my opinion, this would be a very useful feature and would improve the driving experience for many CNG car users.

I would like to suggest adding a feature that proactively recommends nearby gas stations after the user has traveled a certain distance, which can be set by the user.
This feature would operate only during active navigation and could be enabled or disabled based on user preference.
During long trips, drivers may not always keep track of their fuel level or may forget to refuel in time. This can lead to inconvenient or even risky situations, especially when traveling through areas with limited fuel station availability.
By allowing users to define a distance threshold (e.g., after driving X kilometers), Waze could automatically suggest the nearest gas stations along the route. Limiting this feature to navigation mode ensures relevance, while the optional toggle gives users full control over their experience.
Such a feature would enhance trip planning, improve convenience, and contribute to a more reliable driving experience, particularly on long-distance routes.
