Add Off-Road / SUV vehicle type that suggests dirt & unpaved routes in heavy traffic
I suggest adding an “Off-Road / SUV” vehicle type option in the Waze app settings.
When this option is selected, Waze should recognize the vehicle’s higher ground clearance, 4WD/AWD capability, and ability to handle unpaved surfaces. During heavy congestion on main paved roads, the app could then proactively offer alternative routes that include suitable dirt roads, gravel roads, or light off-road paths (where safe and legal).
This would let drivers of SUVs and off-road capable vehicles potentially bypass severe traffic jams using secondary unpaved routes that regular passenger cars cannot safely take. Any such suggestions should still prioritize safety, legality, and local road restrictions.
This feature would be valuable for the growing number of users who drive capable vehicles and could help differentiate Waze from other navigation apps.
