I would like to suggest a dedicated Opposite-Side Driving Assistance Mode for drivers traveling in countries where traffic drives on the opposite side from what they are used to.

For example, I live in Israel and have spent my entire driving life driving on the right. One reason I hesitate to rent a car in countries such as the UK, Japan, Australia or Thailand is the concern that, especially during the first few days, instinct may cause me to enter the wrong side of the road.

Waze already knows the local driving side, road geometry, upcoming turns and roundabouts. This information could be used to provide additional assistance specifically for drivers adapting to the opposite traffic system.

Examples could include:

At the start of the trip: “Reminder: Drive on the LEFT.”
Before a turn: “Turn right, then keep LEFT.”
Immediately after a turn: “Keep LEFT.”
Before entering a roundabout: “Keep LEFT. Traffic approaches from the RIGHT.”
When leaving a parking lot, petrol station, hotel or side road: “Remember to enter the LEFT side of the road.”
During normal driving, display a small persistent KEEP LEFT or KEEP RIGHT indicator.
Provide more frequent reminders during the first hours or days of driving, then gradually reduce them as the driver becomes accustomed to the local traffic system.

The mode could be activated manually, or Waze could suggest activating it when it detects that a user normally drives in a right-driving country but is now navigating in a left-driving country, or vice versa.

The purpose would not be to replace normal navigation. It would act as an additional driver adaptation and safety layer, focusing particularly on turns, intersections, roundabouts and exits from parking areas—situations where driving habits may cause someone to instinctively choose the wrong side.

I believe this could make many travelers more comfortable renting and driving cars abroad and could potentially reduce wrong-side driving errors during the adaptation period.
