Make mobile speed camera alerts bi-directional on divided highways / 4-lane roads
Hello Waze Team and Community,
I would like to suggest an improvement to how mobile speed camera alerts work on divided highways and 4-lane roads.
Currently, when a user reports a mobile speed camera, Waze only alerts drivers traveling in the same direction as the reporter. However, police tactics have evolved. In Estonia (and many other countries), traffic police now frequently park on one side of a 4-lane highway but set up their mobile cameras to measure the speed of cars moving away from them on the opposite side of the road, or capturing traffic in both directions across the median.
Because divided highways are mapped as two separate one-way segments in Waze, drivers who are actually approaching the radar beam receive no warning if the camera was reported by someone driving in the opposite direction.
Proposed Solution:
Please add an option for mobile speed camera reports to be marked as "Both Directions" or automatically trigger a radius alert for both sides of divided highways when a mobile camera is active, similar to how major hazard alerts can sometimes be visible to nearby traffic. This would keep the community safer and more accurately reflect modern traffic enforcement methods.
Thank you!
