Client Suggestion: Voice Recognition
I was driving from Las Vegas, NV to Fullerton, CA this past weekend. During the trip, I had a few hours to think of what client upgrades could be implemented into WAZE. Specifically, as the title of this thread suggests, I thought about Voice Recognition. This came about as I sent a report, but was unable to type a comment, thanks to texting and driving dangers.
Here is what I was thinking:
Voice Recognition would always be active while WAZE is active. Instead of pushing a button to activate Waze, what if a keyword was programmed to start the functionality.…231 votesGreat thinking! The issue you raised has been addressed in a recent redesign. Hope you like it!

chit-chat posts to Twitter
It would be nice to be able to turn off the ability to post Chit-Chats to Twitter. I want to be able to report all the road conditions, but I don't feel my chats should go to Twitter and clutter it up more so.

[iPhone] Show compass on screen at all times
Very handy to see the compass direction on the screen to get a sense of direction when the map is oriented to the direction you're heading in. Currently you can only see this by touching the screen to bring up the compass button. If it was a small permanent icon over the top right corner of the map it would be a huge help.

Enable street numbering through iPhone client
Although the tutorial and online docs mention the ability to mark street numbers through the waze client using GPS, this is not available on iPhone.
5 votesIt is available – go to ‘report’ >> ‘map update’ >> ‘update house numbers’
Note: you can only update a house number for your current location. You can’t add house numbers to a different location.

Make the top choice on the main 'Drive To' screen be your last chosen location.
Whether it's because I cancelled navigation or, much more likely, the server erred out when routing, I constantly need to choose the same location as the last one I chose. If it was three or four pages down on my 'Saved Locations' page this can be quite a hassle—and a bit dangerous—to do while driving.
I'd propose that when you press the 'Drive To' button the top choice on the list is whatever the last location chosen was until that destination is reached.

Add an option to have the 'Music Player' button always on the screen.
It's quite annoying to start up waze and then try to start your music player up. Please allow us to optionally just always keep the 'Music Player' button on the main screen whether music was playing before waze launched or not.

Cancel traffic report due to bad GPS signal
Occasionally the client automatically creates a traffic load report (due to bad GPS signal?), even though the traffic is flowing freely. It would be nice to be able to cancel such a report.
5 votesYou can cancel a report that you have sent. You need to view this event from the list view (after pressing the ! with the events number next to it).
Then choose to show the options for this report, and ask to delete it. -
Waze Joyride - Plan cookie munching trip
Instead of navigating from A to B, can I plan a circular route with as much cookie munching as possible? My regular commute no longer suggests new routes, but I'd like to explore the area and have say a 30 min trip validating as many roads as possible.
33 votesThis is available – in the route settings, you can choose ‘prefer cookie munching’. This will make the route a bit longer, but will include more road munching, where available.

alerts without scrolling
The alert system is great, but when you're driving it would be easier to see all buttons on the same screen, with no need for scrolling. When you need to scroll the list to see all icons it makes you lose attention to the road.
Would it be too difficult to add all kind of alerts on the same window?6 votes -
Zoom level resets after waze shows alerts while stopped
If I'm driving and set my zoom at a certain level and stop, waze shows nearby alerts... great! But when I drive again my zoom level is not what I've set it at. Also, please make the app show the alert on the side of the screen and put the pinpointed alert on the other side while in landscape mode. Sometimes an alert is useless without seeing it and currently the warning covers the map!

Show current scale on screen (cm long line with how many meters it is).
Sometimes it is hard to know if a juction is a km away or just 50 meters, specially if you're only showing map without any guidance. Autoscale makes this even more difficult.

Allow declaring Toll Roads and the option to not navigate through them
Waze wants to route me through a toll road every day and can't seem to find an alternate route until I actually drive it. I want to be able to avoid Toll roads, which means tolls roads need to be able to be declared in the editor.

Show username if nickname is empty.
If you choose to display your name and the 'Nickname' field is empty, you are still Anonymous. The username should be shown by default in this case.

Limit search to smaller area
When I search I don't really want streets from other countries.
32 votesSearch is now limited by radius from current location. When the current location is unknown, it is based on last known location.

Force Reroute Button
Many times i can see that the freeway/higway I´m about to enter is slow moving, and waze wants to route me into that sometimes even if there is reported trafficjams/heavy traffic etc on that road. A button on screen or easy accesssible (poosibly instead of the bulldozer) to force an alternative route would really help

One of the options is to recalculate the route, i.e. force a reroute. -
Use the device built-in address book for navigating
Your phones address book probably contains many addresses of all your friends. Waze should be able to navigate to addresses from your contacts directly.

record my present location like favorite
now it's difficult to add favorites.
I think, it's would be great to be able to add our location like a new favorite location.
People are use to be in their favorite locations2 votesThis can already be done today…
On touch screen you have to do a long press on your location (or any location on the map) and you will see the option to save it.
On non-touch you just need to hit the main button (usually “OK” or “enter”) and this will allow you to save the location.If you feel like this description is not good enough, please write to alpha@waze.com
