Notifications when screen off, like Google Maps

Google Maps has a very practical feature for travelers who frequently use the same route over and over: Turn your phone screen off, and you'll be notified whenever turns are coming up. If you know the route, maybe it's a long one and you just want to be reminded not to miss turns, it's really useful to have these notifications.

In Google Maps, this notification feature extends really well onto Pebble watches, so your wrist gets a gentle vibration for each upcoming turn while the phone screen is off.

Could Waze please raise turn notifications when the screen is off?

    Dear Waze Team,

    I have noticed that when Waze is running in the background on my iPhone during driving, I do not receive any visual turn notifications or previews on my screen. Although the voice navigation works well, I miss the visual support that can be very helpful in certain situations. I understand that this behavior is due both to iOS limitations and Waze’s current implementation, but I would appreciate an option that allows visual turn notifications to appear even when the app is not actively displayed on the screen. This enhancement would improve the overall usability as well as safety, as it would provide a constant visual overview of my route.

    Thank you for considering this suggestion and for your continued efforts in improving Waze.

    Google maps does push notifications of next turn details even when app is in background. I need this in waze. I don’t always want waze filling my screen but want readable direction guidance.

    When off the Waze app get pop up notifications reminding you on turnings or anything that is coming up ahead

    Most apps are able to have an alert pop up when the app is running in the background. You should be able to have Waze alert you to oncoming traffic, police, etc, while running other apps, in addition to the sounds.

    Waze should keep working when the phone/screen gets locked (to save battery) and *optionally* have a feature where it turns the screen back on to display on certain selectable conditions (eg upcoming turn, upcoming tricky routing, upcoming hazard etc

    I mean: When Waze is in background, all relevant notifications for your route should be played.

    Sometimes, Waze notification (even with well know ones like fixed speed controls, or accidents) are not played when Waze is in the background.

    I often leave waze running in the background and use the foreground for music player (where I rate my songs).

    It would be great to have a turning notification with a full screen pop up when the screen is off. That can appear like 1 Km before turning and coming black when done. Keeping the screen always on like the smartphone is a navigator is a kind of waste of battery!

    When I am driving I usually have another app open my screen while I'm doing navigation it would be nice if I will get a pop-up notification with them 1000 feet of an upcoming tournament just like Google Maps does.
