Signal deviation from "normal" work-home route
So I am using Waze mostly for avoiding traffic going to and from work, I suppose like most people. It would be helpful to have a feature where it gives an audible alert if it is plotting a course that is different from the "normal" one to avoid traffic. I imagine this could work by determining the best route assuming no significant traffic, and giving an alert if it is plotting a different course than that. Same thing goes for changes in mid-course due to accidents, jams, etc., that occur after I start. Normal navigation announcements aren't too useful on a regular route like this; would prefer to have announcements when there is something out of the ordinary--even ONLY those announcements.

Please add a toll road weighting factor that lets us rule out expensive toll roads and use more reasonably priced ones.
Virginia 267 is insanely expensive from Leesburg to Dulles Airport; but reasonable from Dulles Airport to the Beltway (495). I would like to mostly exclude just the crazy-expensive portion...
Or better, weight the toll roads based on price vs time saved at user settable hourly rate. If I decide my time is worth $30/hour and the toll is $6 but saves me more than 12 minutes of traffic time - it is worth it. If it only saves me 4 minutes; it is not worth it.

I would also like to have voice prompts on route change after initial selection. It disconcerting to find your expected route has changed. "Changing to faster rouroute" would be a idea

Yes!!! I wish I could give this 300 votes! Waze sends you on the craziest routes sometimes and it is so hard to trust without at least a little justification "Go down this scary back road because I am Waze and I say so" . It would also help encourage more use of the product! "Due to major accident on I 90 let's save 30 minutes by taking Scary Back Road..." Now you have a customer for life!

When Waze calculates a route it says, 'Let's take Main street...' as navigation begins. It would be helpful to know why Waze picked that particular route. Is there heavy traffic? An accident? Flooding?
So we could have something like, "Due to heavy traffic let's take 2nd street..." when starting. Waze usually does a good job, but sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the route selected. A little more insight would help me trust Waze more often. -

Sometimes waze changes routes automatically and it would be nice to be informed why the change was made, like an accident. Also give option on which new route to take

In Brazil many streets are flooded during rainy days and wazers currently use notification to notify other wazers, but the solution to drivers would be to recalculate the route to finally find a way out, avoiding the flooded streets. I was trapped in flooded streets, with several notifications on waze, but no idea how to get out of that place once waze kept the path through flooded streets.

I use Waze for Uber and while on a trip, it frequently re-routs the navigation. Please provide an option to do it or not? If you already have it implemented, please show me how to stop it. My email address is ds.ibkr@gmail.com
Thank you. -

Another vote here, I was about to make a similar suggestion...
I too mainly use routes I know very well like the daily commute hence you don't have voice directions turned on. They soon get annoying otherwise, especially if you have a passenger.
When you start Waze up, it finds your route home/work and shows a little display of any traffic on your route, but this is not a map. So if Waze HAS re-routed you already away from traffic on your normal route and hence now shows no traffic on your new route, you don't realise this, you're not made aware it's not the normal route.
So you think great, no traffic on the way home and off you go. Without the voice prompts you're not aware Waze is trying to get you to turn off so you end up hitting traffic!
Once when I was caught out by this, after I passed the last junction where I could turn off to avoid the traffic jam, Waze then had to reroute me down the normal route and into the traffic. Only then did a voice announcement warn me of traffic ahead. Of course this happened just a few hundred yards past the last junction so I was not happy! If only it could say "turn off to avoid traffic on normal route"!!!

I've had Waze create a route that included a detour but I wasn't aware it was a detour....It appeared to be a mistake. (Took me off an Interstate to a highway and back on the Interstate later) There was a hazardous waste spill on the Interstate. Only saw notifications later. If an alternate to the normal fastest route is shown, a "DETOUR" notification would be helpful....Maybe it is there and I don't know it?

Great idea!
It would be immensely useful.
For example, during everyday travels, I need the screen for other apps (e.g. spotify) but still need to get alerted if route changes due to traffic.

I start my morning by starting Waze, selecting my route, then start my commute. No sooner than when I pull out of my garage, Waze recalculates my route, selecting a significantly different route then I just selected. So, I have to pick up my phone and select the original route, again.

Glad the search function worked! I was thinking about this on my morning drive into work. How about "My Routes" where you could enter the normal, every day route you take to/from work. Waze could notify you how long your route will take given current conditions.
For example, I don't want turn-by-turn directions. I basically take the same route to/from work every day. I have to enable the navigation to get a sense of traffic and accidents. If it normally takes me an hour to get home, and Waze says it will take 2 hours, then I know I should plot an alternate route home.
I turn on the navigation as I leave work to simply see if it's taking me the "normal" way or if the default is an alternate. If it's an alternate, I know there's been an accident. I live in Portland, Oregon and there are very few alternate routes, as all roads have to cross the river. Especially crossing into Washington. There are only two bridges that cross the Columbia from Portland. It's a mess.
My Routes. How about it?

This would be very beneficial to know why the route is being changed.

It would be nice to have an immediate audible warning of an accident ahead much sooner than the current warning. I believe I receive the warning about a 1/2 mile before the accident. By that time I am stuck in the traffic jam and it's too late. If the audible alert was provided immediately, upon choosing a route, I would choose an alternate route at the beginning of my trip. I know there is an icon for accidents when choosing multiple routes but sometimes I am already driving when I start the app and cannot focus my attention to looking for an accident icon. I would be nice if the audible alert would say something like, "Accident reported 5.8 miles on your current route, on Interstate 35. Would you like to choose an alternate route?"

When the route changes, due to traffic, etc. add an audio alert to notify me of this. Since I drive the same route everyday, I have the audio 'on' for alerts only. Which is great for hazards and the like, but that leaves me unaware without looking down at the phone, that the route changed because of an accident, etc.
Keep up the great work. LOVE the app. -

Since the waze is a transit improvement tool why not option for the user to indicate free or alternative routes in the form of alert?

I would LOVE this option. How Waze currently works reminds me of the spouse or friend that "nags" me about every turn along a route I use every day. It would be great to not have Waze nag me - instead simply tell me when something is abnormal along my usual routes.

I was filing the exact same ticket. Although I would also include ETA changes in the audio alerts.

I came here to ask for this exact same thing. I dont need guidance on the same route to and from work day after day after day. however if my normal route has traffic and waze has a better way for the day, then by all means speak up.
