"Stop running in the background" switch on iOS
Hi. I found that Waze continues to run and use GPS and 3G signal while backgrounded on the iPhone. This is catastrophic in our country for two reasons: 1. It keeps the phone very hot. 2. it uses data at about 0.15 USD/MB, thereby ticking down your data and using up your money. You have to explicitly turn it off or explicitly quit the app. There should be a switch that says, and is by default, set to "Do not run or use data or GPS in the background". My experience: I used Waze to get to a destination. I backgrounded it and locked my iPhone. I put it on a countertop in a kitchen for two hours. At the end of that period, my ISP warned me that my data bundle was used up and the phone was hot. This is very bad. Please fix.

Or just switch it off when it no longer detects the car stereo (say AppleCar, AndroidAuto or a bluetooth devicethat usually is the stereo)

I have uninstalled it completely and now using other app instead. Waze was sucking data and draining battery even once i reached my destination and started walking. I had to remember to manually shut it down.

Absolutely agree. Background mode is a stupid solution. Nobody needs it.

I like Waze a lot and use it often (not as much lately). My only complaint is that once I'm done using it, the ONLY way I can get the app to stop running is to shut phone off, then power back on. It won't stop when I minimize it (as I hope it would). Needs to be a way to completely stop it when I'm done (am I missing how?)

In order to avoid having the app on the foreground constantly and save battery or have another app working at the same time, it would be nice to have Waze running in the background. When a message or direction needs to be prompted, it could appear on the top part of the phone screen.

I just got ride of it. There are plenty of others available. I like it but you can’t get out. That’s just creepy.

Until Waze reconfigures the app not to run in background as the DEFAULT SETTING, I will uninstall it and use a different nav app. You, too?

I found Waze keeps tracking you even after you terminate your trip and exit the app

I should be able to shut the app completely OFF. If it won't be fix I will just re-install the app.

What a crap app Waze turns itself on and overides phone turns on data and wi fi even though all turned off. Fully charged down to 2 % overnight with all turned off.
Looking for an alternative. -

I DEFINITELY DON'T want this feature as there are many instances and other apps that require to be in the foreground and WAZE should be able to continue to run in the background... what I think you are more suggesting as a feature though is to have the app simply shut down the GPS once the destination is reached which makes total sense

Hello Waze people, are you reading this board? Do you completely NOT care what your customers are saying? I just bought an iphone (used to use android) and I cannot tell you how annoying it is that you do not allow the app to be completely turned off. What in the world are you thinking? How many people (below) said they are uninstalling it? WAKE UP!

Uninstalled Waze because it won't turn off.

I've uninstalled WAZE until there is a way to truly "quit"

I thought waze was good now I'm finding it immensely frustrating. Using a Samsung I close all windows but of course waze decides it's got its one mind and sits in background still using data. Unstalling now!

I've killed the Waze app and didn't run it for more than a day or two and when I looked at the device logs I found out this line:
"Waze[222] <Warning>: <Google> ACTAutomatedUsageReporterPrivate: sending ping"
If I understand correctly, this means Waze is still running, and using my Data plan and maybe my GPS as well, and who knows what else it sending.
This probably affects my battery life.Is there a way to turn it off? if not please upload an update and stop using my phone when the app is killed
thanks
