Add more levels too Avoid Highway option
With the Avoid Highway option off, Waze is way too aggressive in routing to freeways. The the Avoid Highway on, all types of highways are avoided from minor to freeway. There should be additional options to Avoid Freeways, Avoid Major Highways and Freeways.
Yes, Waze is supposed to figure out the best route based on information without this level of direction, but in fact it does not, at least in some areas. These options would allow some user input based on experience in directing the routing.
This would be especially useful for trips that include multiple type of environments such as rural, suburban, and cities.

I would like to see the addition of an in-the-moment "no freeway" route option for unexpected stopped traffic without having to change your settings

Please make a Shortcut to Avoid Toll Roads and Freeways, there are to many steps to do this!

I use Waze as navigation app and I send a navigation destination from another app to Waze. Is it possible to add "avoid highways" in this deeplink / intent from my other app to Waze?

It would be great, if planning a route, which goes through several countries, to select, in which country I would like to use the highway.
For example: I travel from Hungary to Germany, and I have paid for Hungarian highway, and the German one is free, than maybe I don't want to pay for the Austrian one, and I opt to do not use the Austrian highway, but to continue my route in Germany on highway again. -

I would suggest making it so its a saved option with a favorite location.
I want the general option to be off (ie do not avoid highways) but when use this one favorite (ie Work) always avoid highwaysThen i can also create a second favorite with the option turned off (ie Work W/Hwy) if I am traveling when its not rush hour to work.

I'd like to see a way to have a pre-set setting that would not route to the freeway on short trips. (For example, no freeway on trips less than ___ miles.) I know that "no freeways" can be toggled on/off now but it's easy to forget that the setting was changed. I always want the freeway as an option for long trips. I do not want it as an option when I'm driving a few blocks.

I would like an option to avoid expressways when they give the 3 route options. I don't want it to be a setting. It's fine if 2 of the 3 routes are on the freeway/expressway. Let the 3rd one avoid them.

The "Avoid Freeway" option has to kick in faster. I've sat in stand-still traffic for several minutes - clearly a major problem - and changed to "avoid freeways" and it can take 5-10 minutes for this function to kick-in and re-route.
it's happened several times so it's not my phone/other problem.

The avoid highway option should be chosen with each new drive, it can just be one of the buttons displayed in the first 5 seconds of choosing a destination. For my commutes to and from work I always need to avoid highways but for all other drives I generally want the option to take highways!

Roads and highways with no divider to separate on coming traffic are extremely dangerous. Please add an option to avoid these types of roads/highways in the route preferences. I have been avoiding these roads/highways when I am familiar with the area but it is not comfortable when your navigation leads you to them in unknown areas. Do a Google search of head on collision and see the numbers.... the images are mostly these types of roads/highways. Too many people are distracted while they are driving and it is extremely easy for them to cross to on coming traffic accidentally.

I usually prefer minor highways and local roads to freeways, but my morning commute leaves me in a conundrum. I'm in the Seattle area and my commute involves one portion that is a reverse commute to traffic and (if I choose the highways option) one portion that is in the middle of a high traffic section of road. I am going around Lake Washington from Woodinville to Mountlake Terrace. On a normal commuting day, I can take I-405N for most of my trip and I have a pretty clear commute. If I use Waze with Avoid Highways set to off, it will route me to I-5S for a couple miles at the end of my commute. This portion of I-5 is usually REALLY congested and it takes 10 minutes or so to go only a couple of miles. Last week, I tried something where I went I-405N like normal, but instead of taking I-5S, I continued on I-405N to the Alderwood Mall Parkway exit and changed my settings to Avoid Highways ON and continued on backroads from there. So much more pleasant. But I don't know how to get Waze to go such a route on its own? Do I just set it to Avoid Highways ON and ignore the first portion of the directions till I get to Alderwood Mall Parkway? Then I'm really just using my own directions for most of the trip and somewhat defeating the purpose of Waze. I'd really like to see Waze calculate more trip options at the start of my trip. Often, I only get one option when I turn Avoid Highways to Off and that is the one route above I-405N to I-5S. If I turn Avoid Highways ON, I may get 3 different routes - all local roads, which is often my preference anyway. There has to be a better answer than all or nothing, though.

At the very least, "Avoid Highways" should be changed to "Avoid Freeways". Otherwise, the preference is quite useless due to the very wide definition of Highway.

Probably the simplest would be to have three separate checkboxes for Avoid Freeways, Avoid Major Highways and Avoid Minor Highways, or some 4-state selector for the avoidance level.
In Europe (I suppose not olny there) a lot of roads are classified into the Highways category not according to their width or speed or security profile, but according to their national importance. Many towns or willages are often not reachable at all using any other roads than a 1+1-lane Major Highway...
