Make Waze continue running in background untill it is turned off
I use my phone for more than just Waze when I'm driving. Waze does not consistently run in the background when I switch to control another app (even when I'm driving on the highway at 65 mph). I'd really like to see an option in settings to keep Waze active until I manually exit. Alternatively, how about an option that keeps Waze active as long as my phone is in the car dock?

Need Waze to continue in background when using bluetooth on motorcycle. I put the phone in my pocket and 5 minutes later it turns itself off.

I have a full-Android stereo head unit in my car. I want Waze to always keep running in the background and never stop. Please make an option to start at boot and stay alive always. Since this is a car stereo head unit the cars charging system maintains the battery so battery life is a non-issue. My head unit has 4GB RAM and a very light Android 8.0 OS build (no bloat). It should have no problem running everything I need and Waze at all times.

I think they do it because of the ads. If people turn off the screen then they can't see the ads and their advertisers are not happy.

Is the feature to run in the background while the screen is locked available yet? I connect it to a Kenwood head unit with Waze integration and that feature does not work if the phone screen isn't on.

I agree with this need to have Waze start automatically every time I drive and stay running the whole time I drive. Too often it just closes quietly and then I find I am not getting notifications. I have an app that will start it when my Bluetooth connects to the car (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=a2dp.Vol) but this still does not solve the randomly closing issue.

Bluetooth connected, sound ok in my helmet earpieces. I turn the screen off and Waze is gone. No trying to work the phone while riding. Fix it ...

I use a Motorcycle with intercoms on my helmet. My phone stays in my pocket and I'd like to listen to voice turn by turn instructions on my helmet speakers. This is a real case scenario where phone screen would be off and navigation would continue to work.

What is the logic behind not allowing Waze to run in the background? Please don't give me that safety nonsense.

I am having the same issue. Waze use to stay on in the background even with the screen off (to save battery life). What happened. I have a iphone 7 plus, with iOS 11.3

Waze used to run in the background for me...I have not changed my daily routine, the app has changed. Also The way my bluetooth works when Waze connects if I'm listening to the radio I can not hear the voice commands - that's a different input on my system. I want it to default to the phone speaker like it used to. Getting unnecessarily frustrated.

Wow. I have been experiencing this issue for a long time now. I always assumed I had some setting wrong in my phone or the app. I would never have thought that Waze simply does not support this feature. This is unbelievable! I also use headphones while riding my scooter around Asia and need directions on getting places while I'm riding. I am dumbfounded - literally have difficulty believing this is the way it's supposed to be apparently! Waze, please, listen to your users. This is a highly demanded feature to add, and a really stupid way to run the software. I also have had to switch back to Google Maps for this very same reason, even though I prefer using Waze and get better directions from them. Really shaking my head on this one. Nonsensical.

To the IDIOT who keeps saying that "Prevent Auto-Lock" is a solution: we NEED it to keep running with the screen off. Keeping the screen on is NOT AN OPTION FOR US.
Moreover, wayze just did this to me yet again and this time I've had it. Wayze knows that I was using navigation, that I was halfway to my destination, and that I was in the middle of the road and somehow Wayze thought it was an appropriate time to exit and stop giving me audio directions without any warning just because I had to stop at a red light for maybe 2 minutes.
This is completely unacceptable, you people who are defending it are idiots. After dozens, possibly hundreds of people complaining for more than 5 years and you still don't bother to fix this GAPING HOLE OF A BUG.
WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS ACCEPTABLE ? Wayze knows that I am using navigation, it knows that I am halfway to my destination, it knows that I am in the middle of the road stopped at a stop light, but it is somehow soo freaking stupid that If I stop for more than 30 seconds it thinks I have... what ? stopped driving and forgot wayze was running ? In the middle of the road ? In the middle of my planned trip ?
This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard and I am finished with you freaking people.
You don't give half a shit what your users want or need. You could have added a toggle switch in the settings to keep running with the screen off, easy as pie. But you simply refuse to even do that much. You can now officially keep your piece of shit software, I'm going back to google maps, here maps, yahoo maps, literally anything except for wayze doesn't have this problem.
You've lost a customer who has been a customer for more than 10 years. Good job team!

Another motorcycle rider, start the route, turn off screen to put it in my pocket with headphones, and 10 minutes in the directions stop.

I flagged this idea as inappropriate because you should not be playing with your phone apps while driving. It's illegal in some regions.
You can keep Waze on by selecting Prevent Auto-Lock in settings.
As for the burn in issue..buy a proper phone. LCDs cannot burn in and don't blame the software for crap screen design and crap small batteries in devices.

Another frustrated motorcycle rider using Bluetooth helmet. We need Waze to continue running with the screen off. I prefer the prompts from Waze vs Google Maps. I can launch Google Maps with a voice command on my Pixel and it will continue navigating without ever touching my phone. Waze does not launch this way but the more frustrating feature failure is that it shuts down shortly after turning the screen off, even when taking the time to start it manually at my starting point.

Keep Waze running until you reach your destination even if it across different states.
