Economic (Green) route
We already have the fastest and shortest routes. How about the greenest routes?

I had an idea: changing the focus (today 100% on the user), for a mix of the best for the user and better for the city.
Changing from "fastest way" or "shortest route" + "x% better to the city", there could be an intelligence that between paths with little difference, Waze send the user to the one that is best for the city.
For example : avoid a street that has more accelerated or expensive wear problems of land cover, avoid or avoid a hospital´s or police´s adjacencies, or avoid risks areas.
There is another care to take, for exemple: almost everyone who drives from my neighborhood to the city center will receive the same "fast/short path", but, if everyone goes by the same best path, maybe it could be not the best path anymore.

Sometimes the difference on one way or other is no too much in terms of time, but it is much more in terms of cost, I could be more than happy of waist 5 minutes but save $50 USD

This is especially important for electric vehicles but also all vehicles perform worse on hills and mountains. This could be presented in two ways:
1. An extra route which was labeled "least elevation gain"
2. An option to "avoid hills"This elevation data could be gathered by taking GPS altitude readings then normalizing data from barometric pressure sensors against reported weather.

Give some example.

When going from point A to B, the 2D map shows a shorter route that actually is longer in 3D when A and B are in opposite sides of a hill. The smarter (and more economic) route would be to circle the hill.

"Green", or "Optimal" route in my opinion should be less agressive to time or lenght of route. Now I often see the routes that offer to make a detour of several miles in order to save just a few seconds. Ideally, the ratio should be set by the Wazer. For example, one minute per mile seems reasonable weight.

In my opinion a green route is which has the least number of stops. Stopping the car, and accelerating needs much fuel.

Yes, I agree.
Sometimes it can be nor fastest, nor shortest, maybe something in the middle, like in examples of speed and Gyula. -

Including your vehicle's type of fuel, such as flex fuels in the "My Waze" section could help calculate this as well.

the "green" choice is immobility; Shame on you for consuming resources AND producing 'evil' CO2!

Yes, agreed. Would be fine to see the average speeds as well!

Yes, Gyula's comment would be fine, but the most significat waze data was missing.
I guess with the informations provided, cannot make difference without speed (average).
you have to calculate with v=s/t
in this case, easy to calculate with the info1. 35km, 30 minutes -> 70km/h
2. 18km 31 minutes -> 35 km/h
3. 15km 40 minutes -> 23 km/hwith the average speed, easy to make the best choice.
the 2. average city speed. economy...the first is the much faster (less traffic jam, less traffic lamps)
second is optimal (or economy, name as you want)
third is the sucker road...am i right?

The green alternative would be a route that is almost as fast as the fastest one, but is much shorter. For example, if you have three routes:
1. 35km, 30 minutes
2. 18km 31 minutes
3. 15km 40 minutesclearly the first one is the fastest, and the third is the shortest. The second alternative could be the green one: it is only 1 minute slower but only half the distance, likely resulting in much lower fuel consumption.

In order to save fuel and money, what do you think to have a preview of the profile ?
Choising a flat road instead a road with up's and down's, your drive is safe for consumption.
If we could add the car profile, with regular consumption in Urban, Highway & combined, we can see the best choice for saving money.Last topic, Waze could an EPEAT software or other certified software.
