How to increase pedestrians and cyclists safety
By defining new Waze modes of operation, the central computer could get the location of any pedestrian or cyclist connected to the Waze application.
The following safety features could be specially helpful when the weather is misty or rainy:
The central computer could derive that a pedestrian is crossing a wide road and could inform the near by vehicle drivers. As a result the driver will slow down.
When driving on a narrow road, any car driver could be warned that he is approaching of a walking pedestrian or of a bicycle rider rolling on the road. This will be helpful on a road with many curves.
To prevent pedestrians to look on their smartphone screen when crossing a road, the application should set the screen to black and write a message:” Be Careful ! You are crossing a road”.
Add on the Waze application screen a flashing mark with the location of each emergency vehicle located within the area displayed on the screen and the direction of its progression. Activate a warning (visual, audio and vibrating) if an emergency vehicle is approaching. This will help any person listening music loudly via his earphones, or a deaf person to get warned.
