How to Help Emergency Vehicles To Reach Their Destination Faster
Waze should have a new mode of operation for priority vehicles (buses, taxis, ambulances, firefighters, police...), because only these vehicles are authorized to travel on priority lanes.
A special Emergency Sub-mode should be added for rescue and police vehicles. These vehicles have authorization, in case of emergency, to activate their warning lights and horns, to drive on contraflow lanes, on sidewalks...
Emergency vehicle drivers shall be able to enter this sub-mode after a secure identification and certified authorization mechanism
On the Waze screen of all the drivers in the vicinity, add a flashing mark of the emergency vehicle location and the direction of its progression. In case of collision hazard, activate an audio alert. This will allow the drivers to clear the way to the emergency vehicles.
On priority lanes, the central computer could recommend the public transport vehicles drivers (including trolley drivers) either to stay in their station or to reach a station or parking place and leave place for the emergency vehicle to move forwards.
When two (or more) emergency vehicles reach the same road junction on a collision course, the central controller should inform all the relevant emergency car drivers about the situation and set priorities for crossing the intersection, and when possible, define priorities.
