While I was driving home this afternoon I came up with an idea to include a dash cam as part of Waze.

South Africans are notorious at driving illegally and including a dash cam in Waze which would serve as a record of the incident(s), date, time and location, plus a recording which could be used in any potential court case.

I know many people would use this functionality on a daily basis.

I would recommend continuous recording to capture events that occur while stopped at stop signs/red lights etc.

It would be great if we could get directions coming up on our Ford Sync system on the dash behind the wheel as well. Currently you get it all on the touch screen, but not on the display behind the wheel. The Ford original sat nav brings up the "next directions" on the dash. Please see my post on the forums:

Really good idea, especially if you can buy some kind of window sticker...." Waze cctv in operation " as an example. It'll be on a par with others, like Sygic

Would definitely like and use this function.
And as commented by someone else, please ensure the option to record to SD card is provided.

As an iPhone user, I am not able to have the camera recording in the background. The initial implementation of the feature could be as simple as a "record my journey" button. Simple options, such as, how much disk space to use, video quality etc.

I would like to suggest a new function which makes it possible to turn your cell phone into a camera through using WAZE
That is to add the camera button in the application screen and when pressed, it activates the back camera of the smartphone and records the way.

This would be really nice because it would allow someone to be able to show the speed of travel in court. Especially if someone gets a ticket or gets into a bad accident.

If this feature is done, please allow to specify where the data will be recorded. Internal memories of phones will be killed by the constant rewriting (flash memories can only handle a limited number of rewrite cycles). Using an external high-endurance microSD card will allow to spare the phone internal memories by using a dedicated and purposely manufacturer microSD card.

Pleas add Augmented Reality display with dash cam and collision worning... so that all this essential feature be in one app!

1. I'm from Poland. In similar Polish app named Yanosik there is a feature named video recording. It is simple recorder that makes 1 minutes chunks of recordings what is going on the road. It's very useful to report some idiots on the road and great thing to show Police when accident happens who caused bad situations on the road. On this videos can be printed some info, for example time and my speed. Isn't it great feature?

2. In Yanosik you can report not only stationary Police patrols but mobile patrols with camera too (it's called trafipax in Poland). That usually is car looks like normal private car but with mobile radar and video recorder. Very common in Poland. Can you add this feature?

3. This is my idea. I've never seen this feature in any of GPS apps. Sometimes you forget charger. And when I'm using Waze without charger and screen on all the time it's a huge battery draining. 100 km trip can consume 50% of battery. But when I'm using the same Waze with screen off and using only voice clues it consumes about 3-4 % of battery!
So my idea is: most of times screen is not needed. Is needed on crucial moments. Alerts, police patrols, obstacles on road, crossroads and so on. I dream of this: screen is off when nothing happens. You travel straight, no turns ahead, no obstacles, no speed limits and so on. But when something serious I need to know screen turn on and showing situation. After alert screen is turning off and save battery.

Can you at least think of this features? Of course video recording will be used only with charger. But two next can be used without charger.

There are no camera apps avalible for iPhone that record whilst the app is minimised (I presume for security purposes). It would be very useful if you added a video recording function so that the Waze app would double as a dashcam as well as a sat nav.

I would like that waze allowed to record in video the realized trips, the idea is to use the back camera of the cellular that normally is looking towards the street,
And if you record in video something important in the way you can upload to YouTube as a "waze-Tube" channel.

Have the ability to download WAZE on the car system touch screen. Eliminating the need to have the smart phone mounted on the dash.
