You can even sync the recorded video with the exact location on the map

Use Google Drive for storing the videos after you stop the navigation, deletes automatically in 24 hours (or how long ever you want it to exist)

Build a "record"/dash camera feature, in case there's an accident and you need "hard proof" :)

Good quality dash cameras are usually expensive,
if you build a record feature which would record the road you're driving (it will have to stop camera features on other apps since "SNAPPING AND DRIVING IS NOT SAFE".)
In case you get in an accident, or you happen to drive by when some serious accident happens..

Use the builtin camera to record the drive in the background whilst using the navigation. Would be good to have the video recording with GPS coordinates. So that you can navigate and in the background the dash cam is recording the journey.

Everyone nowadays needs a dash cam with all the lawsuits going around and to add it to waze is a great idea

My suggestion that might increase
1) Active User -> more actual data
2) Loyal User -> the won’t quit or change so easily.

Set up patrol efficiency option.
Calculate the trip, and let the user key in the detail when they fill in patrol, estimate the price and cost of their patrol fees.
User could also add in which type of car, which type of travelling (business or casual)
so they can understand how much time they spend on travelling and what is the expenses. Even for Uber driver, they will love that as well.

So if the user is using waze every time they start the car (as they wanna to record the trip), so you will get more real active data (instead of people treat that as another navigation tool).

I love the Waze app but I have to utilize my phone for service calls, Scheduling and other needs when I am on the road/traveling. I would love to have Waze come out with its own Dash Navigation unit or a device with the Waze OS on it.

Uso viajar mucho y utilizo mi iPhone 5s montado en un holder de estos que se adhieren al vidrio con una ventosa. Cuando paso por algún lugar panorámico pongo el teléfono en modo cámara y estando el teléfono montado en el holder queda en perfecto angulo para ver la calle y grabo segmentos del viaje para enviarlos a mis amigos. Se me ocurre que: siendo que al utilizar Waze el teléfono está montado en el holder: que genial sería que Waze pudiera acceder a la camara y que se mantuviera grabando un segmento corto, que se yo, de unos treinta segundos para efectos de poder usarlo en caso de un accidente o ademas que se pudiera usar este recurso en imágenes para alimentar los reportes de wazers... Esto no solo ayudaría montones a usuarios como yo, sino que impulsaría el uso de la app al saber el usuario que teniendo su Waze encendido montado en su vidrio, pueden obtener un video de mucha utilidad por ejemplo en accidentes en los que uno dice "habria sido genial si quedara grabado..."
Espero se entienda la idea, si es así y les parece, me encantaría ver esta mejora próximas actualizaciones.

I agree with the dashcam suggestion. Setup options should be:

On by default Y/N
Video resolution
Storage location (if applicable)
Storage size allocation (start overwriting oldest when limit reached)

Add to use phone camera to cyclic record of trip automatically.

In addition to this idea, I would suggest a sort of picture in picture feature. With my Honda Civic, the gap in the dashboard right in front of the right information screen is just the right size to hole my iPhone 6s Plus. It obscures that screen, of course, but the camera looks directly at it. That information could be included in the Waze app via the camera. This could be done via the same feature I'm replying to, but need not be a recording (just a pass-through). User should be able to, with a tap or voice command, toggle the view on or off.

you should add DASHCAM for proof fight ticket, insaurance fraud, etc. i hope you make dashcam extra on waze

I need need a front facing vidio to be on while I use the GPS feature because I transport people and I need a record of events inside the car

Record video and sensor data from device to help investigate accidents save the user from having 2 devices , and use all the smart phone information to allow in depth analysis of what led to an accident , and potentially call emergency help like police or first aid in case app detects and accident.

I agree, it makes a lot sense considering the hardware is already in place. It has a ton of use. Check YouTube for dashcam videos and you will get an idea of how many situations that are caught on camera thanks to dashcams.
