please, hide "my waze" and "search bar" when im driving and no destination is set.
they take half screen when the phone is in landscape orientation (5.5" inch phone)
The search bar is hiding in roaming mode after some time.

The search bar takes up 40% of the screen in landscape mode when not driving to a destination. This is an incredibly bad design choice and must have been overlooked in development. Please make a button to open the search bar rather than it be permanently taking up 40% of the bottom of the screen

I feel search results tab is unnecessary, doing a search mostly display results from places and google anyways plus when I enter a specific address, it gives me more options that complicates what I am looking for. Example is when I grab a location from my contacts, I gives me more address to choose which are unrelated to my search, places and google tabs shows 1 correct address. Or maybe give us an option to hide the search results tab.

After rolling back the other day to fix the hiding search bar, my waze auto updated to the latest version. They fixed the ui!

For anyone having this issue, I rolled back waze to version 4.78.1.0 from way back in November 2021.
Auto hide search bar works and also google assistant.
Running in a Android 8.1 head unit,
10.25 widescreen. -

Doesn't work on a android head unit running android 8.1.
The display is landscape.
No I don't use android auto. It's a proper android head unit.
That search bar is **** annoying. Has anyone got a link to the waze rewire APK?

FIXED!!! Wrote the below complaint about two weeks ago, and a day later my wife's app updated to an absolutely brilliant new horizontal format where the search bar was shoved over to the bottom left and the speed etc. bottom right. Very, very intuitive format. My app however, despite having the same phone and app version remained stubbornly obscured. I'd been considering completely uninstalling and reinstalling but this morning it just sorted itself out and now uses the new format. Took a while, but good work guys!
Pixel 7, App Version 4.95.1.0Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. I think my favourite interaction so far has been reaching out to Waze support about the bar taking up way too much real estate in horizontal mode and not disappearing like it used to, and their official response was "don't use it that way". What a joke. If the development team worked half as hard fixing widely reported issues as they do diligently alienating their users by denying those issues exist, this app would live up to its enormous potential.

Hi Everyone, it seems Waze already has a new layout called Rewire that can be enabled from config. Unfortunately you need to or rebuild the apk yourself or have root and modify the following file:
/data/data/com.waze/preferences
and Add or Modify these configs to look like these:
Rewire.Legacy app navigation: 0
Rewire.Rewire main menu: 1
Rewire.Hamburger button enabled: 1
Rewire.Search zero state enabled: 1
Rewire.Search autocomplete enabled: 1
Rewire.Start state enabled: 1once done your Waze should look like this:

Whoever has oversight for waze interface it's not listening to their customer base. Whomever it is, they are literally the Catherine Kennedy of Waze. Utter useless. I used to use waze driving every where despite ot needing navigation assistance. Because it showes police, hazards and such. Now it is a danger to use because 2/3 of my screen is blocked!!!!!! Useless app now

Problem is still not solved. The search bar does not hide when navigating after any amount of time.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX THIS! THE WHERE TO AND MY WAZE BARS TAKE UP WAY TOO MUCH SPACE! MAKE IT SO THEY WILL AUTOMATICALLY HIDE AFTER A FEW SECONDS! YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ENTER A DESTINATION FOR THESE BARS TO HIDE! ALSO THE CAR TYPE BUTTON SHOULD BE REMOVED SINCE IT CAN BE SET UP IN THE SETTINGS! YES I KNOW I'M SHOUTING! THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN IMPORTANT ISSUE TO ALL OF ANDROID USERS!

I switch back to Google Maps while riding my motorcycle. This search bar is obstructive and basically makes ways unusable for me

I use Waze on a motorbike, I would prefer to have the screen in wide angel mode but can not due to the screen real-estate being used up. I use it every day to work and home and it is great for reports on traffic and road conditions and more. (I do not need to set a destination as I know the way). Ask the developer who put it there to hide it, behind a icon, in a swipe or a double tap. or as suggested have option "just drive".

Yea need option to hide search bar, maybe even just a swipe down or touch map to hide, or have option "just drive"
