they take half screen when the phone is in landscape orientation (5.5" inch phone)

Sad that this problem hasn't been addressed yet

Enable search box to be hidden or minimized without having to input a destination.

I agree that there should be an option to hide the Search Box.

Please add option to remove or turn off search function, we do not need both 'My Waze' and 'Where to?' on the screen at the same time. They take up too much screen space. Two search options is not required.

On Android 11 and 13 on Samsung A53 and A8, with Waze updated on 12/12/2022, "my waze" bar and search bar never hide without navigation. It's a shame because it takes up more than a quarter of the screen in horizontal mode.

Why is the address bar taking up screen space all of sudden how do we fix it
-
Juanlu C.C. commented
as you can see in the screenshot, the vertical mode has a line in the middle of the search bar, while in horizontal mode that line does not appear, therefore the bar cannot be hidden nor does it hide itself when hovering time, so the view of the map is very reduced, before it worked with a double click on the screen, now this function no longer exists.

the search bar is no longer hidden in horizontal screen mode making it very difficult to see the map, before it worked fine now it only works in vertical mode, please, it's a major problem, fix it, it worked before.

hello, in horizontal view it does not hide the search bar when moving without a path, on the other hand in vertical view if there is a line that allows it to be hidden, please also implement this function in horizontal mode.
please, it's a major problem, fix it, before if it worked. -

No @Admin it is not hiding. Please remove the search bar, remove My Waze, and remove Carpool buttons. No one uses them!

The search bar does NOT hide after "some time". Come on ... this is simple stuff. Can we just have a "close" button / swipe?

This really bothered me in portrait mode but I tolerated it. Since I started mounting my phone to my motorcycle in landscape mode, I just can't take it anymore. The "Where to?“ bar takes up so much space! I use Waze for traffic information. I don't always need navigation. Please fix this.

I use waze in landscape mode daily and the search bar/waze bar never hides. @admin can you give a clear explanation of the conditions which lead to the bars hiding? This is a critical issue and if it were my software project, would block release.

No admin - its NOT!
But I have found bug here. If you first run waze in vertical, then turn ON option of the screen rotation and after that you will turn you phone from vertical to landscape - that **** Where to go line vanishes. Sometimes need to do this several times.
All this on Android. Because on iOS there is no such problem. -

No it isnt

I drove 150 miles yesterday and neither the search bar or the other one didn't disappear at all.
It's totally useless as those bars covers up half the screens in landscape.
If its not fixed I am going back to Tom Tom -

This post is one-year story and nothing improved, ughh how should I interpret such ?

Ah, yes the search bar automatically hides after a while but the "car type" blue banner stays in the middle of the screen, what an improvement !
Please make them all disappeared:
car type can be handled in the setting menu
reverse the behavioral: the search bar shall appear only when the user taps on the screen. This occupies half of the screen in half screen display !

I really don't understand why this change was made. Waze used to be really useful, but now some product manager who probably doesn't even drive seems intent on ruining the functionality for no good reason.
