Waze already has a strong community reporting culture for traffic, hazards and police. A similar approach could be used for parking. When a user is parked, there could be a simple optional button like “I’m leaving this spot”. After confirmation, Waze would mark that location as recently vacated and show it to nearby drivers for a short time window (e.g. 5–10 minutes) and within a limited radius. This would be a community-driven signal, not a guaranteed or legal parking spot, similar to other crowdsourced reports in Waze. The feature could be opt-in, anonymized, time-limited, and removed automatically after a few minutes to avoid outdated information.
Such a community parking report could reduce cruising time, unnecessary traffic, and frustration in dense urban areas, while staying fully aligned with Waze’s crowdsourced philosophy.
