Driver-reported street parking spot availability
Hello Waze Team,I would like to suggest a new feature that allows drivers to report when they are leaving a street parking space.How it works:When a driver stops navigating or starts their car, Waze can show a quick pop-up asking: "Are you leaving your parking spot?"If the user selects "Yes", Waze can pin a temporary green icon on the map to inform nearby drivers that a space is becoming vacant.This report would automatically disappear after a few minutes to ensure the data remains fresh and accurate.This feature would save drivers significant time, reduce traffic congestion in busy urban areas, and lower emissions caused by driving around blocks looking for parking.Thank you for considering this idea!

Waze already has a strong community reporting culture for traffic, hazards and police. A similar approach could be used for parking. When a user is parked, there could be a simple optional button like “I’m leaving this spot”. After confirmation, Waze would mark that location as recently vacated and show it to nearby drivers for a short time window (e.g. 5–10 minutes) and within a limited radius. This would be a community-driven signal, not a guaranteed or legal parking spot, similar to other crowdsourced reports in Waze. The feature could be opt-in, anonymized, time-limited, and removed automatically after a few minutes to avoid outdated information.
Such a community parking report could reduce cruising time, unnecessary traffic, and frustration in dense urban areas, while staying fully aligned with Waze’s crowdsourced philosophy.
