Send a text message when delayed and/or shortly before arriving
Waze can send twitter-messages, but with the new APIs in iOS4 it could send textmessages (SMS) as well. When entering a destination for routing, one could also select a mobile phonenumber (of the person we are driving to) so that significant delays are reported automatically to this person. Also, waze could send a SMS some minutes before arriving at the destination. This comes really handy when you want to pick someone up!
When I say "automatically" - I mean that Waze pops up a dialog that you only have to confirm.

Great idea. Possibly set up an alert at the beginning of your journey. Choice of SMS or social media fB or Twitter or Whatsapp, the message and the frequency of the update. As an SMS you can add coordinates that could be imported to the local map application and If on social media it could show where you are on the map and expected ETA. Look at Flighttracker24 to see a great use of this idea. The idea would be to provide a frequent update with the minimum of driving disuption.

Receive your old timey sms text via SIP with anveo -- join the adults who have used mobility longer. It'll allow your luddite peers to adapt without you suffering with their naive masochism

It's NOT-smart to pay to send text on a smart phone. sms is CRETINOUSLY FOOLISH
However
XMPP TEXTING is the smart $0 choice. No adware, no proprietary app, available on every device. Does not tie you to a phone

Was hoping the app did this already. Seems odd to set up a share drive then have to pick up phone and text the person I've arrived. I figured the app would tell them since it already texted them the first time. Sad to see this option hasn't been voted on much. Guess people done use the pick up a friend feature that often...or don't know about it. Seems to me though that if the app can text the person in the first place...it could also "retext" that person when you're one mile away or so warning them you're close.

This would be really useful for car shares to let the passenger know they are on route. Used all my votes before I got to it, but I like it.

adware is evil commented
as long as there is an option for XMPP (Jabber) for people unwilling to waste money to merely communicate in TEXT on a smartphone :p

I think this is a great idea, easy to implement for the Waze team, I'm sad about, right now, there's only few votes for this option and the last comment was about two years ago.
