Turn off the GPS when exiting the app
On the iPhone when you exit the app, the GPS is still engaged. On other GPS apps, if there is no ACTIVE ROUTE, the GPS is turned off upon exit. This should be implemented in Waze.

I agree with this. I can specifically hit STOP the route and it continues giving me directions. I can close out of the app without hitting stop and continues to give me directions. I can hit stop and close the app both and I still get the route. As I speak, before I typed this comment it was still showing the blue box on my iPhone. this bug is enough to make me not use the app. It’s not only annoying but very, very distracting when you’re driving.

Waze prompts for GPS to be enabled upon startup, it should prompt to disable on shut down (Android)

Yes, please turn off tracking when the app is no longer in use (completely exited via double tap of home button and closing the app fully).

Please turn off GPS after I close the app as well as give the user a choice as to whether or not they want to reveal their location to everyone else and other people in their phone. That is such a huge invasion of privacy that seems to be unable to override

Checked my battery usage on an I phone. 86% is used by waze.

Please do this asap. It comes down to the safety of the users.

It would be better to have Waze app asking to switch GPS on at start and asking to switch off when stopping.

I'd have to downvote this one, there are a LOT of times I'm driving new roads and want to get out of the app - someone else using the phone/SMS/music/games - without stopping recording.

On the top bar there is a 'off' button you can use now to avoid the backgrounding of the app.
