Changing this to Not Planned, as it doesn't fit on our roadmap in the near future. We'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

If they choose to pickup people (in their settings) they get a message and may choose to accept the request. They can choose to give a free ride or that they want to share costs. The hitchhiker's location is then sent as a stopover location (along with a drop-off point where their routes fork).
So what could be the incentive for picking up random people?
- Collect extra points
- Saving our environment
- Share gasoline
- Be able to use the commuter lane
- Make new friends and be the hero of the day:-)
- ...and many many more. What could be an incentive, too?
Consider an API not only as a one-way data provider. Why not allow others to CONTRIBUTE to WAZE, like GPS tracks (e.g. from TOMTOM), gas prices, map updates and many more.
Of cource you will somehow have to make sure input data is valid and trusted.
