Allow the ability to specify the location of a report.
When reporting an issue, crash, traffic jam, fire, Police activity, the system only gives you the option to report on the road you are on. So for example, if you are at an interchange where you can see the activity on a highway or interstate, but you are not on that road, you can't actually report it properly. Maybe it can be set up that you make a report, and like in google maps, you have a pin dropped on the map that you can move to the correct location, if where you are is not the location of the activity. Example: look at Cromwell Park Drive, Glen Burnie, MD on google maps. You will see that there is an interchange where I-97 passes by. You can see the activity on the highway, even if you are not on it.

I've often had this problem of wanting to report something I passed, but didn't have time to grab my device and report it. For example, passed a hidden cop today on a busy road, but I was making a right turn 1/4 mile later and by the time I could report the cop, I couldn't report it for the road I turned off of.

For example, I just drove past a hidden police bike and then 2 miles further turned off the dual carriageway. I wanted to be able to report that fact but couldn't put an accurate location on the map. To my mind, this is an essential feature.

I can't type when I'm driving but I want to pull over up the road and make a report.

Agree! This is a SAFETY issue! Often IT'S NOT SAFE to try to report the condition/closure at that exact moment. It's better to pull over to the shoulder/etc. a few hundred feet ahead and then use the screen to report it. But since your app forces the location to be your current location, you're encouraging us to try to do it immediately.
If you are concerned about abuse, then allow the pin to drop within X feet/miles/whatever of current location.
Very similar to this - For ROAD CLOSURES, please don't assume about which direction we want to report. So often, I encounter a closure and have already turned around, or turned in the direction of the detour, before I'm able to find a safe place to stop and report the closure. But when I do that, the Waze client ONLY offers me the direction that I'm facing *now*, which is useless.

Can't agree more. For example - reporting an accident or closed road within visual range. Often I don't report these because I detour and never pass close enough.
This is especially valuable for flooded streets as I'm not going to drive through said flooding to report a road closure :) -

This. Waze is sometimes running in the background, Nd of I drive past an accident, I'm often a quarter mile down the road before it loads up with a network connection. I'd like the ability to drop that pin in a more accurate location of the hazard/accident.

I think this would be awesome. We have had several cases just recently. I knew of an accident road closure but could only call her, but obviously that did not help your other users in the area. Not being in a metro area, I am sure we do not have as many users.

I cannot believe this was started in 2010 and hasn't even been given any notice by waze. People, vote for this!

Also another example - I listen to tv news in the morning and often they will report an accident that their helicopter has seen but its not on waze yet and would be on my route if I didn't hear about it on the news first. I would like to be able to post it. Or if I see an accident around the corner from my route, etc.

at least allow each wazer to specify a
REPORTING LAG
..to button mashing
as having speed traps PAST real location
is "less than ideal"

This would give Waze a huge boost. So many good reasons to have this:
This morning there is a big accident on a major road (dual-carriage way) near me. Police have closed the road in both directions, diversions set up. I (thankfully) can't get to the location of the accident or even the point where the road is closed, there's no point me hitting the report button where I am now but I know what's going on from reports on the local radio and from text messages from colleagues stuck in the traffic jam! If I could pin point on a map then report the accident / road closure (which we can't do anyway) or traffic jam, that would be a big help to other Wazers currently out on the road.
Reporting a "gas"/petrol station... you pass the station, press the gas prices button, after a while the client reports no station found, ok, so you can do a map update request, but by now you're half a mile or more down the road.
Maybe there's a small but significant hazard on the road you've just passed, you need to be accurate in the reporting location but again, you're several hundred yards past it by the time you hit the report button.
Some people are worried about abuse of this system, maybe limit this feature to people with a minimum number of points or not "newbies" or something.

I think it's a great idea but it could lead to abuse so I will say no.

I hope waze could improve the reporting eg. Speed cam or Invisible police by off routing. I always missed the sweet spot and unable to report that later. Also hope can have short cut of reporting that really short instead by referring to few clicks away

being able to set one's
• reporting handicap
would be less cumbersome. A number of seconds (at travelling speed) to have waze set the report peg that distance back in one's journey
also using Jingle audio blurb would allow for more detail by solo driver -- as few have the IQ or magnipotence to simultaneously execute two manual dexterity tasks (pen clicking test)
that Jingle feature suggestion has numerous excellent waze applications

This feature would be very limiting for those us using iPad, without the ability to use the voice reporting feature. In my case, I reported a traffic accident and (a different) traffic congestion issue, and I was there. However, since I was able to circumvent the issues and continue driving, the typing function was disabled in the app, and I was unable to report the problems until I got home. While I was there, on the roads with the issues, your suggestion would cause you to dismiss my reports as being inaccurate.

Totally agree. Should be common sense. If there is a cop doing radar or something, you don't need to be playing on you phone as you pass by him! Allow users to get to a stop and "drop a pin report" on the location it actually is. Also allow users to delete their own report - in case they placed it in the wrong location or even the wrong type of report.

Agreed! It often takes me a few seconds to get my phone and then hit the report button - by that time, I've already passed the point where there is a speed trap, or a road closed, etc! I don't want to create the event in an inaccurate place - this seems like an obvious fix to implement.

also allow changing after the fact as reporting police I don't have the time to fiddle with extraneous settings

This is also a good one if you are slow to get your phone out and hit the "report" button - you could back the pin down the road a bit to where the report should really be. That could be very important for a speed trap report!
